ACTIVITY 9

MATERIAL/ECONOMIC SELF
"What We Have Is What We Are!"
According to William James, the material self refers to objects, places, or even people,
where some possessions are viewed as extensions of our identities. Anything that has meaning
for us can be our possession, and I believe that everything we cherish reveals something about
who we are, our self-concept, our past, and even our future. And I've come to believe that even
if it's not a material, it's still a possession if it has a very important and sentimental value to us
that influences our own individuality. Aside from my family and circle of friends, who have been
my inspiration and sole motivation, these 13 boys have also played a role in shaping, building,
and improving my own self during these difficult times. And in this activity, I would flex them
because they are my main inspiration and motivation in my life's struggling times right now.
When I was stressed, sad, or in need of a safe place to cry, I went to their videos and listened
to their music. They are SEVENTEEN! A 13-member Korean pop boy group that influenced me
to change. They are known as the most successful self-producing idols; they choreograph their
own steps, compose and produce their own music, and are known as the King of
Synchronization due to their knife-like execution of their choreography, and as a fan, I am very
proud of them. And that wasn't the main reason I wanted to flex them. It's because they pushed
me to be the best version of myself, to accept my flaws and use them to be my advantage.
They are the reason I keep smiling, and I'm just proud and happy with the outcome after I met
and stanned them. Yes, we may not know each other personally, but the impact and changes
that they have influenced on me are very important to me, and I value them greatly. The fact
that even my academic performance has improved and I am now happier than I was in
previous years after meeting them is the most valuable thing for me as their fan. Their influence
on me is something I will cherish forever; others may argue that I am being too petty because
all KPop fan is like this, but I don't think so. It's not an obsession for me, but SEVENTEEN has
given birth to a new and happier and merrier me. And I am grateful for the changes that have
occurred in my life. Because of the value of certain parts to us, we may have a preferential
attachment to or intimate closeness to them. And I believe that our various material
possessions can motivate us to work harder and achieve our personal goals. Because at the
end of the day, I acquise that we are is what we have, just like me I am right now because of
SEVENTEEN.
