Module on (Identifying Possible Solutions to Problems)!
This module was collaboratively designed, developed and
reviewed by educators from public institutions to assist you, the
teacher or facilitator in helping the learners meet the standards
set by the K to 12 Curriculum while overcoming their personal,
social, and economic constraints in schooling.
This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into
guided and independent learning activities at their own pace

needed 21st century skills while taking in consideration their needs
and circumstances.
In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see
this box in the body of the module:
As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on
how to use this module. You also need to keep track of the
learners' progress while allowing them to manage their own
learning. Furthermore, you are expected to encourage and assist
the learners as they do the tasks included in the module.
Please help the learners in sharing their ideas and knowledge from
their experiences so that there will be collaboration and learning
will be easy.
Answers are written at the back of this module. Inculcate to the
learners the value of honesty.
For the Learner:
Welcome to the English 3 Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Module
on Identifying Possible Solutions to Problems!
When pupils like you begin to read fiction and non-fiction stories,
you will have to understand how the key problem and solution
can be found.
Problem-solving is a very important part of the curriculum. You can
take on some of your own learning responsibilities and can take
personal actions to solve issues, explore solutions, and reflect on
thought. It encourages you to use your newly gained skills in real-
world activities and helps you to function at higher levels of
thought.
This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful
opportunities for guided and independent learning at your own
pace and time. You will be enabled to process the contents of
the learning resource while being an active learner.
NOTE: Use the module with care. Do not put unnecessary mark/s
on any part of the module. Use a separate sheet of paper in
answering the activities.

Lesson
Identifying Possible Solutions
4 to Problems
The problem of a story is the trouble or difficulty in
which the main character finds himself or herself. When
reading a story, you will understand it better if you can
identify the problem.
In writing a story make sure that the main character
has a problem in order for the story to be more interesting.
Meanwhile, the solution of a story is the way the
character/s figures out or solves the problem. In reading a
story, make sure to identify the solution to the problem.
In writing a story, make sure to figure out a clever
way for the characters to solve the problem.
Study the following examples:
1] Leslie hid behind the house. Carlos could not find
her and started to cry. When Leslie came out, Carlos
stopped crying.
Problem: Carlos could not find Leslie and he started to cry.
Solution: Leslie came out and Carlos stopped crying.
2] Kim did not have time to do her Math homework
last night, so she asked her teacher if she could stay in at
recess and do it. Her teacher said, "Yes."
Problem: Kim did not have time to do her Math homework
last night.
Solution: Kim stayed in during recess to do her homework.

What’s New

Sometimes things go wrong and need to be fixed.

What is wrong in the picture?
How would you fix it?

What Is It

A problem and solution in a text is a sentence

pattern where there is a concerning issue and a remedy
to the said issue.
It is in which knowledge is carried in a passage as a
question or issue (a problem) and something that has
been, can be or should be done to resolve this problem
(solution or attempted solution).
A problem in text is something that needs to be
solved or worked out. The problem is usually found near
the beginning of the text.
Examples:
My homework fell in the mud!
The glass fell out of my hand and broke.
A solution in the text is the way the problem is solved
or worked out. A solution is the “fix.” The solution is usually
found near the end of the text.
Examples:
Luckily, I could still see the answers and copy them
onto another homework paper.
Mom helped me sweep up the broken pieces of
glass and asked me to be more careful next time.
