Capstone Project Documentation - Chapter Two - Sample Template

This chapter outlines the theoretical framework for a research project titled "[TITLE OF YOUR PROJECT]". It describes the software development methodology used, including its phases and how each phase helped guide the project. Database and programming language theories integral to developing the project are also discussed. Non-IT theories that influenced the software development process may also be included. The theoretical framework is intended to support the research and explain how completing the various phases led to a functioning website that improved the client's business operations.

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK

2.1. INTRODUCTION
Theories are formulated to explain, predict, and understand phenomena
and in many cases, to challenge and extend existing knowledge within the limits
of the critical bounding assumptions. The theoretic framework is the structure that
can hold or support a theory of a researched study. The theoretical framework
introduces and describes the theory which explains why the research problem
under study exists.
[USC1999]
This chapter shows the different theories involved in the development of
the [TITLE OF YOUR PROJECT]. In this chapter, terminologies are cited for a
clearer understanding of theories that are grouped according to what uses it
belongs. This will guide the proponents identifying what should be done during
the construction of design for the user interface and the flow of the proposed
website.

2.2. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY THEORIES

2.2.1. [YOUR CHOSEN SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT METHODOLOGY]
In this study, the proponents will use the [YOUR CHOSEN SOFTWARE
DEVELOPMENT METHODOLOGY]. Briefly explain the phases of your chosen
sofware development methodology here. State the importance of each phase and
how to correctly transition to the next up to the last.
Explain in the second paragraph your reason behind choosing this
software development methodology as your group’s methodology. State how each
phase had helped you in the development process. It is important that you tell in
the past tense, as it’s expected that you had already finished the software after
creating this documentation.

METHODOLOGY]
 [Phase 1] – Briefly state the things you did in this phase.
 [Phase 2] – Briefly state the things you did in this phase.
 [Phase 3] – Briefly state the things you did in this phase.
 [Phase 4] – Briefly state the things you did in this phase.

2.2.2. Database Theory

Explain which concepts and database technologies you used in making
your software. Did you use a relational database management system? Or a non-

relational one? Which software did you use in managing your databases?
MySQL? Postgres? State all of those here. Make use of bulleted list if you had
used several database-related theories or technologies in your project.

2.2.3. Programming Language Theory

Discuss here all the programming/scripting languages you used in
developing your software. Explain why you used such languages to build them
and detail how it had helped you accomplish your goals in finishing your project.
Make use of bulleted list if you had used several programming or scripting
languages.

2.3. NON-INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY THEORIES

If you think your project dealt with theories from other domains, like Psychology,
Marketing, Engineering, enumerate them here (Please follow the number format. If you have
three items, number them via 2.5.1., 2.5.2., 2.5.3.) and briefly explain how those theories
affected your software development process.

2.4. SUMMARY
A website is common tool used in business to [state here its relevant usage]. The
proposed system, [TITLE OF YOUR SYSTEM] had a great help in [state which area of your
client had received a vast improvement]. Using the theories cited above are important part of
making people understand the flow and the use of the proposed website. The following theories
are used to make a system working.
