Syllabus Design Task

(Dialogue Between Waiter and Customer at Restaurant)

Waiter: Welcome, sir. Please have a seat.

Customer: Thank you.

Waiter: How can I help you sir?

Customer: Could I see your menu card before ordering something?

Waiter: Sure! Sir this is our menu card.

Customer: Could you please tell me the famous dish of your restaurant?

Waiter: Sure! What would you prefer, veg or non veg

Customer: Non veg.

Waiter: We have Chicken Burger, Chicken Rice, Mutton and Kabab but Roasted spicy chicken is one of
the best dishes we serve.

Customer: Get the Roasted Chicken one.

Waiter: Anything in beverage?

Customer: Yes one coke.

Waiter: Very well, sir.

Customer: How long will it take?

Waiter: It will take 20 to 25 minutes.

Customer: Excuse me! I forgot to mention one thing.

Waiter: Yes, please tell me.


Customer: I want coke without ice.
Waiter: Sure, sir.

Customer: Meanwhile could I get something to read?

Waiter: What would you like to read sir?

Customer: Can I get a magazine.

Waiter: Yeah sure.

Activity (Typology)
Level 1
Teacher has to familiarize the students with vocabulary terms (i,e Menu card, Vegetarian/Non Vegetarian
Chicken Rice, Roasted spicy Chicken) introduced in the dialogue.
And then Play a recorded Tape in front of the students.
Response: Physical or Non verbal
Every time students have listen the Vocabulary Items mentioned above They have to write it on their
notebook and then their notebook is checked by the teacher.
Response: Non Physical or Non verbal
Pre-teach the vocabulary mentioned above and then again play the recorded Tape.
Students have to listen this and then mark the Tick in the Appropriate Box.

Put students into Pairs and ask them answers and questions using cards.

Level 3: Interactive

Stimulated: Role-Play
Give an activity to the students in which one students acts as a waiter and 2nd one act as a
customer.
Real: Discussion
Paired up students into groups and each group will discuss his favorite dishes with each other.
Real: Problem Solving
Teacher has to give a Blank paper to the students and ask them to write some lines about the
favorite dish of some other students.
