1.1 How angry are you about the events depicted in the film?

2. Who is most to blame for the events depicted in the film?

2.1 Republicans or Democrats?

2.2 Government or financial services companies?

2.3 Regulators, who stuck by their free-market beliefs or investors who carelessly took
on too much risk?

2.4 When a student mentions a person or institution they blame, ask what they should
have done differently?

3. Take your answer to question #2 and explain what they should have done differently.

4. Do you think someone should go to jail for the behaviour depicted in the film? Why?

4.1 Inside Job discusses the evidence that senior bankers on Wall Street used
prostitutes and illegal drugs, sometimes paying with company credit cards. If bringing
a criminal fraud case related to sub-prime loans and CDOs would be too difficult,
should prosecutors go after this other behaviour?

5. Discuss whether the educational institution (City Council or School Board) should have a
policy regarding conflicts of interest. For example, if someone works in an industry with
an issue that is before either body, what would be done?

5.1 What if Sony Pictures Classics paid our professor money to show the film in class?
Would that be ok? Should someone have to disclose all of the money he makes from
outside activities?
6. If your class has covered the 1920s-30s, compare the events depicted in Inside Job to
the roaring ‘20s, the Great Crash of 1929, and the Depression that followed. What is
different about today? Disclaimer: This item (6) is not covered in our class.
