ADVENTIST MEN’S ORGANIZATION (AMO) GUIDELINES


The following are the Adventist Men Organization (AMO) Guidelines that were
revised by the Conferences/Fields Federation Leaders and Personal Ministries
Directors of the Southern Zambia Union Conference through the virtual meeting that
was held on Friday May 28, 2021. These guidelines were approved by the Southern
Zambia Union Conference Mid-Year Executive Committee, which was held on June
9, 2021 at ASMARA Hotel, Plot Number 5494. The action number is 163/21

MISSION STATEMENT

The Adventist Men Organization (AMO) as a subsidiary of the personal ministries


department, is mandated by the church to preach the three Angels message of
Revelation 14:6-11 in fulfillment of the gospel commission of Matthew 28:18-20, also
to passionately do community service activities in corroboration with other church
departments and societies.

OBJECTIVES

1. To attend to the needy cases in and outside the church.


2. To provide spiritual and material support to the vulnerable in hospitals,
prisons and community.
3. To enhance spiritual growth of AMO workers by attending AMO rallies,
efforts and retreats.
4. To raise funds for community service.
5. To equip AMO workers with entrepreneurship skills.
6. To evangelize to the community through lay preaching efforts, prison
ministry, and Community Services.

AMO GUIDELINES

1. AMO members shall be as follows:

a) Baptized members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.


b) The non-baptized will be referred to as associate members.

2. AMO members should sign the AMO Pledge.

3. Whereas AMO is engaged in many activities, they may form subgroups to


address the various needs.

4. AMO members who become habitual in resigning from AMO shall be


referred to the elder or pastor for counselling before re-joining.

5. AMO workers who breach the Guidelines will be admonished by the AMO
leaders before being referred to the elder and pastor.

6. The AMO Leadership shall encourage and ensure regular attendance and
active participation of every member.

7. Young men shall be encouraged to join AMO starting at the age of 16


years.

8. Church leaders shall be encouraged to join AMO.

9. As a subsidiary of the Personal Ministries Department, AMO shall report to


the Personal Ministries Department/ Leader.

10. AMO work shall comprise of community service such as helping the poor,
visiting the sick, conducting and preaching in efforts, running prison
ministry and other evangelistic programmes as outlined in the Church
Manual.

11. Only fully paid-up active AMO members shall be elected to positions.

12. AMO workers shall consult with local leadership when visiting other AMO
groups.

13. AMO meetings or community service outreach programmes should be


held twice a week (preferably Sundays and any other day).

14. The following order of service shall be followed during weekly meetings:

i. Opening song.
ii. Prayer.
iii. Bible reading.
iv. Activity for the day.
v. Closing song.
vi. Prayer.

15. An offering shall be collected on one of the two days selected for meetings
or community outreach programmes, as per Church financial policy
(Church manual pp. 83- 84).

16. Members who miss during preparation activities for any special
programme shall not be allowed to participate during that special
programme.

17. In-active AMO leaders should be replaced by the Church Board according
to the church manual if the trend continues.

18. AMO uniform shall consist of:


i. A navy-blue suit.
ii. White shirt.
iii. Black shoes.
iv. Navy blue socks, and
v. Maroon necktie.

vi. Community service badge or pin.

During community services the AMO worker shall wear a white T- shirt
with a collar with navy blue trousers. The AMO uniform shall be put on by
only fully paid-up members.

For the uniform to be complete there should be a community service


badge or pin.

An AMO pin just shows an identity, but the uniform should not be over
decorated.

19. When to wear AMO uniform- the AMO Leaders shall advise but generally
the instances shall include:

a. First Sabbath of the month.


b. During the weekly meetings.
c. At funerals when asked to do so.
d. When preaching in AMO organised programmes.
e. While visiting public institutions and private institutions for
community services.
f. When traveling to AMO meetings.
g. During special events.

20. When not to wear – as advised by the AMO Leadership.

21. Resignations: - Any member who resigns shall stop to wear the AMO
uniform (anything that identifies a member as AMO).

22. Community Service badges and pins are not only used by AMO but shall
also be used by others involved in community service activities.

23. Local AMO Leaders, Secretaries and Treasurers shall be members of the
District AMO Federation.

24. General meetings and rallies are for all members of the AMO.

25. AMO members shall wear uniforms and participate in Personal Ministries
programmes in the first week of the month.

I pledge to attend all AMO meetings.

I pledge to work with all church leaders at all levels.

I pledge to live an exemplary Christian life through daily personal devotions and

commitment to sharing the Word of God.

I pledge to participate in the work of community service.

I pledge to participate in the yearly AMO Evangelistic series.

I pledge to support AMO financially and physically where possible.

The Gospel Minister should officiate on this occasion or the Federation


Leaders.
