CERTIFICATE
This is to certify that the following student of this institute have
carried out this micro project work on TO PREAPARE A REPORT
ON SPECIFICATIONS OF PCC under the guidance of PRANJAY
SAHARE in the department civil Engineering during the session
2021-2022. This work has been done in the partial fulfillment of the
award for Civil Engineering from MSBTE…
CIVIL ENGINEERING
Under the guidance of
PRANJAY SAHARE
v. Resources required
Importance of specifications
a) Specification shows the method of doing wok and act as a guide
to the supervising staff.
b) The cost of unit quantity of work is known by its specifications
c) Work should be carried out according to the specifications
mentioned in contract, otherwise contractor will not get
payment. Hence contractor is only paid according to the
specifications.
d) Tender document without specifications is considered an
incomplete and invalid.
e) Any change in specifications changes the rate mentioned in the
tender paper.
Purpose of specifications
1. It helps to the contractor and pricing the tender.
2. Specifications fixes the responsibilities of owner and contractor
3. Specification is an important tool or document and plays the
important role for arbitration.
4. It helps to prepare rate analysis of various item.
5. Specifications are the witness document and hence useful in
court to settle the disputes…
PART-A
MICRO PROJECT PRAPOSAL
TO PREAPARE A REPORT ON SPECIFICATIONS OF PCC
3. PRAPOSED METHEDOLOGY
5. RESOURCES REQUIRED
1. RATIONALE
Concrete has been used for many wonderful things throughout
history, for either architecture or for infrastructure work and more.
The term PCC stands for plain cement concrete, the mixture of
cement, fine aggregate and coarse aggregate are generally called plain
cement concrete, before starting any R.C. core masonry work directly
on the excavated soil, PCC is done to form levelled surface and to
avoid laying concrete on soil directly so as to avoid mixing/with soil
and also to prevent soil extracting water from PCC thereby weakening
it.
3 . LITERATURE REVIEW
5. ACTUAL RESOURCESUSED
1. Coarse aggregate
a) Coarse aggregate shall be from hard broken stone of compact
besalt or granite or similar stone and shall be free from dust,
dirt, oil and other foreign matters
b) Size of stone shall be 20 mm and down and all sizes of stones
shall be retained in a 5 mm square mesh and well graded, shall
not gave voids more than 42%
2. Fine aggregate
a) Fine aggregate shall have coarse sand consisting of hard, sharp
and angular grains
b) These aggregates shall pass through sieve of 5mm square
mesh.
c) Sand shall be as per the standard specification
d) Sand shall be clean and free from dust, dirt, oil and other
organic matter
e) Sea sand shall not be used
f) Crushed stones sand can also be used if specified…
3. Cement
a) Cement shall be fresh, not old, and as per the Indian standards
Specification and shall have required compressive strength and
Fineness.
b) Portland pozzolona cement is normally used for plain cement
Concrete, it should be confirm to the specifications and shall have the
Required tensile and compressive stress and fines.
4. Water
a) Water used shall be clean and reasonably free from injurious
quantities of deleterious materials such as oils, acids, alkalis, salts
and vegetable growth.
b) Generally, potable water shall be used having a pH value not less
than 6. The maximum permissible limits for solids shall be as per IS
456:2000 Clause 5.4, Page No 15.
Hand Mixing
1. PCC is allowed to be done by hand-mixing only for small-scale works.
2. The base on which the concrete is mixed must be clean, watertight slab or a
steel platform.
3. For concrete of 1:2:4 / 1:4:8 proportions, one bag of cement , first two boxes
of mixed dry thoroughly making the material turning up and down by spade
or phawrah and then this homogenous dry mix shall be placed over a spread
stack of 4 boxes of coarse aggregate and the complete mix dry turn up and
down with phawrah or spade at least three times so as to obtain uniform
mix.
4. Then water shall be added to slowly and gradually and then turning the mix
up and down at least three times by spade till to obtain mix of the required
workability and water cement ratio
Machine Mixing
1.Cement, sand and coarse aggregate shall be taken into the machine mixer in
required proportion.
2. For concrete of proportion 1:2:4 consist of one bag of cement, two boxes of
sand and four boxes of coarse aggregate shall be taken into mixer.
3. The machine shall then be operated to mix material dry & then water shall
be added gradually with required quantity 25 to 30 liters of water per bag of
cement to obtain the desired water-cement ratio.
4. Forms at the bottom surface in case of beam and slab shall not be
removed before 14 days in general and sides of form shall be
removed after 3 days.
5. Form work shall be removed slowly and with care and not to
disturb and damage the concrete.
