Task 1 CWTS2 BSBAHRM 1 1

Service learning is a form of experiential education where students work with communities to apply what they are learning and reflect on their experiences. There are advantages to students, teachers, and communities. Students develop skills and become service-oriented leaders. Teachers collaborate with students and take on coaching roles. Communities benefit from student contributions and see youth as valuable assets. There are three types of community service: direct service that directly helps people or the environment, indirect service that influences people without direct contact such as fundraising, and advocacy where one uses their voice to support or oppose issues. BSBAHRM 1-1
Task 1:
Answer the following:
1. Define service learning and explain advantages to students, teachers, and
communities. Explain two advantages to each group.
Service Learning was defined by the given instructional material as a form of
experiential education where learning occurs through a cycle of action and reflection as
students work with others through a process of applying what they are learning to
community problems, and at the same time, reflecting upon their experience as they
seek to achieve real objectives for the community and deeper understanding for
themselves.
For the advantages:
To students,
 Students learn and develop as a result of their service experiences (i.e., through
behavior, affect, and cognition). Students achieve effectiveness and self-direction
when learning starts with actions.
 Youth will become service-oriented people and youth leaders through service
learning.
To teachers,
 Service learning promises to bring together teachers and students in a
collaborative effort to improve partnerships.
 Teachers take on additional responsibilities as coaches and instructors, as well
as knowledge presenters, as students take on more responsibility for their
learning.
To communities,
 Service learning helps to develop and revitalize communities.
 As a result of the contributions to the common good, teenagers are seen as one
of the community's most valuable asset.
2. Describe the three types of community service
 Direct Service is described as service that has a direct effect on the people,
animals, or parks that we wish to help. This could involve things like volunteering
or cleaning up a park, maids that work in your house provide you with direct
services, when you go to shop, the assistance that the shop keeper provides you
with is also an example of direct services.
 Indirect service is the kind of service in which you are not physically present
with the person or thing you are influencing. Fundraising or collection efforts are
examples of indirect service.
 Advocacy is whether you speak out of support or opposition to a certain problem
or solution. We advocate as we use our voices.
3. Explain why self-reflection is important to community service.
The ability of being aware to yourself (self-reflection) is crucial to our self-
improvement. Allow self-reflection to guide you to development, positivity, and
satisfaction. We will look at ourselves with excitement and concern as a result of this
practice that is good in community services. According to a website (brandeis.edu)
Reflection allows volunteers to acquire the knowledge and skills to learn and develop
through thoughtfully organized community service projects and gain an in-depth
understanding of the value and impact of their work.
