On the other side we see Akbar Khan holding a walkie talkie standing on top of
a hill at the artillery observation post leaning on a walking stick in his right
hand and a bandage on his left eye, looking bruised and battered. Holding the
walkie talkie with his left hand.

waqt aane par diye jaayenge- keep artillery ready at 0600 hrs - Over and out.
C/U of the watch: Akbar looks at his watch. It shows 0550hrs… He gets up
with the help of the walking stick… We see him limping.

The observation post consists of several men and one officer. He stops and
looks through his binoculars at Usman’s brigade HQ. Akbar’s POV:

He sees the Indian artillery positions and the activity around it. He looks
around and finds the sand bag model camp with Indian soldiers and officers
doing their chores. The armoured cars, jeeps and an array of tanks are parked
in and around.

The leading young major looks at his watch, its shows 0600 hrs.

Akbar Khan quickly orders the artillery gunners to fire on his walkie talkie.
The artillery open fire.

The artillery fire finds its target on several other tanks and vehicles. There
are casualties.

English sergeant on horseback keeping abreast shouting at them. His attitude
is like a bull dog. Trotting on his horse screaming.

A tracking close shot of the 13 cadets who are sweating and panting heavily
look exhausted. One of the cadets drops down. He cannot take it anymore.
Usman who was running close by stops turns around and run towards fallen
comrade to help him. The sergeant turns his horse and charging menacingly
towards Usman, screams at him.

We hear the sound of machine gun fire. We see about 11 soldiers sitting on the
ground in a line with machine guns kept between their legs firing away just 3
feet above the ground.

This part of training is very crucial-- Live fire is 3 feet above the ground— keep

Another angle the cadets we have seen before are taking this battle
inoculations which means they have to crawl upto 50 metres of live fire
without being shot.

They are holding on their guns and moving on their elbows and knees flat on
the ground keeping low. We show the sergeant screaming.

Two to three shots from different angles capturing Usman crawling under the
intense fire just as he passes the camera. We see another cadet is hit by a
bullet right in the fore head and falls dead.

This is observed by Usman. The stress on the faces of the young cadets is
immense. The heavy din of the machine gun fire is deafening them so much
that the shouting voice and the screaming sergeant are seemingly heard like a
distant thunder.

Dogra company, launches an attack on the hill feature from two sides.

Akbar Khan is seen leading the 13th Force Rifle from the third side under
intense firing from the hill top. Usman orders Sepoy Bhandari Ram to take a
platoon to attack from the right side, like a pincer movement.

Bhandari Ram swings into action and leads his men with immense gallantry-
attacking and killing several Japanese.

In the thick of the battle after shooting down several Japanese, he is riddled
with the fierce fire from the Japanese as he charges directly in a frontal
attack on the entrenched Japanese troops shooting down almost all the JAPs .

On the far side akbar leading his Pathan platoon under intense fire charges on
the other Japanese position and swamps them.

Usman and few men rush and jump into a bunker avoiding the fire from the
rushing zeros, the Japanese fighter who are heading straight towards them
strafing them with heavy fire, and swoops out of frame.

Just then akbar comes back with few of his men who are carrying Bhandari
Ram- who is very seriously wounded.

He looks at Bhandari Ram and moves towards him. Camera catches them in a
two shot c/u, a visibly emotional Usman looking at Bhandari Ram whose blood

bunker and meet the officiating Commandging officer-an Indian officer named
Col Sen.

several shots of boats moving to and fro from the banks by the boatmen with
their passengers and goods.

A scenic shot of the lord Hanuman temple. We cut to the interior- Usman
sitting on the steps the sankat mochan temple-- taking out his boots watched
by two other young priests. He observes a few monkeys playing on the walls
nearby and smiles.
We cut a flashback
Close up of a lord Hanuman idol. Camera tracks back and we include the
mahant finishing his last rites. We hear the lord hanuman chalisa in the
background and the temple bells ringing. The atmosphere is august. Usman
and his father are observing the rituals. A big close of the Mahant distributing
the aarti and people are offering coins while being blessed.

We show Usman and his father sitting on nearby steps in the precincts of the
temple. We see a bunch of monkeys playing with each other. Mahant with
noble bearings comes towards Usman and Kotwal with an assistant and
affectionately greets. Kotwal and Usman both get up reverently and greet
Kotwal offers a coin as per custom and accepts the prasad. The prasad thali is
taken away by the assistant.

Usman. Usman rushes in and sits next to the Mahant. As he sits we see a
couple of monkeys come and sit nearby him. Mahant observing this.

He gets out, he smiles and walks up the stairs lead by the officers who have
received him showing the way up.

We see a grim Jinnah in his study which is lined up with law books and piles
high of documents in neatly arranged stacks. There is a knock on the door.

with them, taking in Jinnah getting up from his chair. He dismisses the
officers who leave them and walk out closing the door gently with respect.

Boucher’s office, a young English lieutenant greets Usman by getting up from
his chair and salutes him.

men and women are offering floral chadars. An elderly man- the Imam

It’s a dark night somewhere between Multan and Lahore. A drone shot, the
camera captures both sides of the railway track. We see a train moving fast
with its headlights, on either side of the dark night we see hundreds of fires in
the distant wilderness of the night of the burning villages.

The interior of one of the bogeys. We see a lot of people whom we recognise as
the refugees of the camp. They all look anxious, frightened and some are
crying and some covering looking out of the window.

Sudarshana sitting next to Amar Singh. Both looking grim clearly stunned by
the burning fires. Camera moves close to Sudarshana- her eyes full of tears,
her face gripped with fear. The camera moves close to her- she is trying to
hear the faint distinct sounds of woman screaming for help.

Camera shows a fire in the village. We see a woman carrying a baby, two other
children running away along with her and her husband looking back. Over the
shoulder shot of the advancing mob. From their POV we see a mob of about
hundred odd people with lathis and swords advancing rapidly on them. They
are Sikhs.

A composite shot- the rioting mob advancing on the victims and the victims
fall to the ground. The woman trying to shield her children and the man is
trying helplessly to protect his family.

Their POV is the burning villages. Amar Singh comforting her, puts his arm
around her protectively. We can see the deep concern for the child on his face.

IMPORTANT THAN THE LIVES- ) mixed with the sound of the moving train
wheels. In the background, an anguish voice of a woman which can only be
described as a tormented and agonised pain of humanity trying to reach the
skies.

The engineer ordering the coalman to rapidly feed the engines with more coal.
We can see the grim anxiety on his face looking at the genocide being raged on
both sides. He wipes his forehead with a cloth.

An aerial shot train moving towards Delhi alongside on the road running
parallel to the tracks. We see a long line of bullock carts filled with people.
Hundreds of Thousands walking besides the bullock carts heading in the
opposite directions towards Delhi. The line is almost 50 miles long.

Another angle we see the caravan of bullock carts with the Hindu and Sikh
refugees walking on foot passing in the foreground with women, children and
old people with their chattels and goods on foot moving towards Delhi. A
miserable sight..

After few steps, she turns and looks at her fallen baby, her POV her child
crying with open arms stretched out towards her.

She turns her face away crying out loud and keeps walking, looking back at
her helpless child. She can’t hear his voice anymore… she looks up in the sky

The camera catches the fallen child and trucks to reveal dozens of several

As the train slows, we can clearly see Sudarshana and Amar Singh looking out
to the platform anxiously.

As the train halts, we see the various groups pull out their weapons and
prepare to fire.

There is a sudden burst of machine guns and stein guns. Fire is heard. We see
Usman leading his men firing at the armed groups who are about to kill the
refugees.

The precision of the fire power led by Usman is so immense, we see in rapid
several intercuts including the refugees hitting the floor to escape the hail of
bullets.

We see Sudarshana and Amar Singh do likewise. Harminder, who is right next
to Usman firing his gun at the groups, a two shot of them.

The platform is strewn with several dead bodies of attacking tribesmen, the
rest of them run away. The platform is clouded with gun smoke. Usman is
running towards the engine.

We cut to him with the engineer and his crew. The crew is busy filling the
water and coal as fast as they could. Engineer desperately urging them on to
do their best. Usman climbs up the engine and talks to him.

We see a huge hoard of tribesmen rushing with their weapons from different
directions on their jeeps and some in armoured cars.

Close shot: Barrel of a tank shoots a walloping blast from its gun. Camera
tracks and captures a long line of Indian tanks moving and intermittingly
blasting away their guns. We see groups of infantry moving in the shadows of
the tanks.

The gunfire from the tanks takes a huge toll on the tribesmen. The tribesmen
are also shooting bazookas at the moving tanks.

Several cuts of the advancing Indian troops and the charging tribesmen in a
massive slaughter. We see large number of tribesmen fall and one Indian tank
being hit by a bazooka. The infantry is taking several casualties. It’s a pitched
battle.

the tribesmen. Murugam is seen running behind 3-4 troops. Suddenly a group
of tribesmen open fire on the troops. Murugam who is unarmed, hits the

enraged that he picks up one of the rifles of the dead soldier and shoots four
tribesmen dead.

to the ground somersaulting, picking up a STEIN gun and fires at the
tribesmen getting four in a row.

He is under intense fire from Sardar Ibrahim and his men as he get behind a
fallen vehicle and starts shooting again at the tribesmen. Usman is under
heavy gunfire and we see a Pakistani tank racing towards him to crush him.

Usman grabs a bazooka from a tribesmen after shooting him dead. The tank is
closing on him fast. He quickly kneels, take a position and aims the bazooka.
The tank is almost on him and Usman fires the bazooka in the belly of the
tank.

The tank goes up in flames. Just then an Indian armoured vehicle swings in
and halts right in front of him.

As he says this, two tribesmen pounce on him pulling him out of the vehicle.
Harminder loses his temper…. He smashes his fist and drawing tribesmen
dagger plunges it into the other tribesmen. The tribesman is clinging on to
him. Harminder wrenching himself free, kicks him with his boot.

Looking through his binoculars his POV: The infantry supported by tanks of

after tank with great precision. The Baloch tanks return fire hitting the Indian
tanks. The battle rages on.

doors. There is a namaz in session. One of them grabs the Imam and puts a gun
to his head. The worshippers are stunned looking on helplessly.

placing heavy guns and mortars in the mosque and its doorways.

There is sharp exchange of fire between the Indian troops and the tribesmen.

The tanks blast a volley of shots on the enemy, not giving them time to turn
their tanks to engage the Indian attack.

marked with a Red Cross.

comes with a big tray of samosas and takes the tray to Usman. Usman directs
him to serve the officers first. Suddenly his eyes fall on a bunch of local
Kashmiri boys standing nearby looking at them.

He beacons them to come forward with a smile. The boys look hesitantly
among each other. Usman calls out.

The boys move towards Usman, Dhillon, Grewal and Harminder while eating
samosas are looking on. Murugam gaping at the boys with the tray of samosas
in his hands.

offers the samosas to the boys. The boys hesitate but on Usman’s command
they start taking the samosas and eat them hurriedly THEY GRAB AND

trucks with troops are suddenly attacked by a hoard of tribesmen led by a
Pakistani officer in jeep. They come alongside the column. The soldiers are at a
disadvantage as they can’t see the tribesmen. They open fire taking a few
casualties of the Indian troops.

Usman looking back POV, he sees the rear of the column being attacked in
gorilla passion by the tribals. Who are spraying machine gun fire on the
covered trucks, taking a few casualties.

Interior of the truck: A machine gun quickly placed in the centre of the truck
swings to the left. Soldiers duck to the ground and lets go- a sweeping bust of
fire tearing the canvas of the truck.

Outside, several tribesmen are hit with this fire and fall. There is an exchange
of fire and more jeeps come in. The Indian army inflicts heavy casualties on
the tribesmen firing from the interior of the truck. We see several tribesmen
have been killed. Army taking a few casualties. Usman rushes in his armoured
car firing away at the tribesmen.

tribesmen with heavy firings from both side. We can see this on a drone shot.

The battle between these groups is escalating rapidly with fire and counter
fire from both sides.

brigades infantry. There is a fierce clash between the two armies.

they get into a hand to hand bayonet fight.

As he says this, the valley reverberates with the boom of the artillery shot.
Usman screams “ Cover” and they all dive behind rocks. The shell hits exactly
at the spot where Usman was sitting, breaking the rock into smithereens.

The Pakistani artillery fire commences from the top. We see the bombardment
exhilarates. We see small groups of Indian army troops take various positions
on the slope of the hill feature.

The Pakistani artillery shots are getting closer to the Indian positions below
and finding their targets. There are various intercuts of the Pakistan gunners
firing away rapidly and impacting some positions of the Indian troops, causing
some casualties and loss of equipment and trucks.

along the slope of the hill feature pickets.

The guns on the hill blazing away with their leaping tongue of fire look

Suddenly the barrage from the top increases its momentum hitting several
areas of the Indian positions below, causing damage to troops and equipment.
All of a sudden the guns stop firing and an eerie silence pervades the
battlefield.

We see the Indian artillery opening a huge barrage on the picket above with
quick shots from several guns look dramatic in the darkness of light with
leaping shafts of fire, the artillery impacting the Pakistani pickets with
devastating effect. The Pakistanis are pinned down.

We show several cuts of the Pakistani officers seen earlier being blown up in
the blast. A shell hits a nearby bunker where Akbar was taking shelter. The
impact lifts him up in the air and he falls hard on the ground with a groan.

A drone shot: A pitch dark night is lighted up by the intense artillery fire
which is finding its target accurately on the Pakistani position impacting them
with heavy casualties. Series of cuts of the Pakistani troops and material been
blown up all over the place by the heavy bombardment.

The Indian troops as per plan are moving up to the pickets rapidly directly
under the Indian artillery fire. We can see some of the troops carrying
mortars.

Usman enters into a big tent and walks towards the corner to Grewal’s bed
side. Grewal is heavily bandaged. Usman looks at him holding his left hand
affectionately which is without bandages and smiles.

Grewal looks at Usman with a feeble smile. We see him in great pain.

Shaheen enters in a routine way as a nurse to check on her patient. She sees
Usman. She is totally surprised and Usman gets equally surprised.
The camera pans on pine woods there is a slight wind blowing. We can hear
the rustle of the Pine leaves. Shaheen and Usman a little further away in the
woods from the hospital area. Usman’s armoured car is parked with four
soldiers keeping a watch at a little distance. They both are standing under a
large Pine tree.

We show them in profile. Both are looking at each other without saying a
word. We catch their excitement and happiness swell. Shaheen is caressing
Usman’s lips with her fingers. We see tears of happiness in Shaheen’s eyes.
Their theme music is introduced. They both quickly kiss passionately. There
is an urgency in their movement.

Shaheen puts her hand on Usman’s mouth and repeats his unspoken lines.

Just then we hear a machine gun fire. Usman reacts and looks at his
armoured car. He sees his four jawans dropping dead, a dozen tribesmen lead
by Babraq come towards Usman and Shaheen with blazing guns. Usman
pushes Shaheen down into a cavity in the rocks and urges to her sharply.

Pulling out his revolver with precision, he shoots and kills 6 of the 10 men
attacking. Babraq and the remaining 3 attack Usman. There is hand to hand
fight where Usman over powers the 4 with well-aimed punches and kicks.

Babraq plunges on him with a knife as he is grappling with him. The other 3
come up to attack. He pushes Babraq to the ground with a roll, picking up a
fallen STEIN gun and fire, kills 3 men. Babraq is very determined. It’s a fierce
fight.

Inserts of Shaheen behind the cavity in the rocks looking tensed. Her POV:
Usman swings the butt of his stein gun and knocks Babraq to the ground.

A hoard of 20 odd tribesmen emerge from another feature just below them
and charge to assist their leader.

Usman quickly turns. POV of Usman: The tribesmen charging towards him
blazing guns. He dodges behind trees and chunks of barks fly around. The
tribesmen advance closer. Shaheen is pulverized.

An armoured car swings in. A close cut of Harminder. His POV: The tribesmen
rushing towards Usman. He mows down the tribesmen with his machine gun
mounted on the armoured car.

Usman rushes to fetch Shaheen from the cavity in the rocks. He is shocked,
the cavity is empty. Shaheen has been taken. He hears the sound of jeep which
comes to a halt. His POV: Babraq pushing Shaheen into the jeep. The jeep
moves away fast into a left turn of the slope of the hill.
Intercut
Interior of the jeep: Babraq and two men holding Shaheen in the backseat with
her mouth gagged. Another armed man sitting next to the driver pointing the
gun at Shaheen threateningly.

Usman sprints fast and comes to the edge of the cliff. He sees the jeep racing
away on the road below.

Usman's POV: He sees these 2 armoured cars blocking the escaping jeep with
Shaheen. He cuts across with lightning speed on the slopes and as he reaches
the road, we see Harminder in his armoured car moving in fast from the right.

The jeep is hemmed in between oncoming two armoured car and Harminder.
Usman is in the centre of the road. The jeep carrying Shaheen comes to a stop
in front of him followed by the armoured cars. Harminder is right behind him.

Interior of the car: Babraq looks at the armoured car in the rear and turns the
head to the front. His POV: Armoured cars blocking both ends of the road. He
puts a revolver to the head of Shaheen and speaks out in Pashtun to his
companions.
Usman standing on the centre of the road just a little away of the car with a
pistol in his hand. His POV: Babraq getting out of the car holding Shaheen as a
hostage, keeps the revolver aimed at Shaheen’s head.

C/U of Harminder angry. Another C/U his finger on his machine gun trigger.
Likewise quick intercuts of the troops holding guns ready aimed at the
tribesmen. But they are constrained as Usman and Shaheen are right in the
middle. There is an intense moment of suspense.

As he says this the camera goes close to Shaheen and Babraq . He corks the
trigger of his revolver pointed at Shaheen’s head menacingly.

unashamedly crying for a man who had endeared himself to them all, in so
short a time.

burial spot. We see the Mahant with six of his followers looking at the coffin
with deep sorrow.
