Let us first define what is a verb. Jericho, - Okay teacher! A verb is a word
can you read what is a verb? that defines action - an action word.
It will tell what the subject of a
sentence is doing or what will
happen.

Very good Jericho!

Verbs also are one of the eight main parts

of speech. They show action or state of
being.

I have here some examples of verbs used

in each sentence.
1. Terry ran upstairs." (ran tells what
Terry did - Terry is the subject.)
2. Katie eats her lunch." (eats tells
what Katie is doing - Katie is the
subject.) - Me teacher (Via is raising her hand)

Who can give more examples? - The dog barks at the intruder.

Yes, Via. - Barks teacher.
What is the verb used in the sentence via?

Very good! - Me teacher (Jake is raising his hand)

Who else can give an example? - Selena feels hungry.
Okay jake. - Feels teacher.
Jake, what is the verb used in the
sentence?

Very good!

Now, let us proceed to the types of verbs. - Me Teacher, (Tristan Karl is raising
The first type is an Action Verb. Who can his hand)
read what is an action verb?
- An action verb shows what a subject
does.
Okay Tristan, read it.

Very good Tristan!

When using action verbs, the sentence

structure will be SUBJECT--->ACTION
VERB--->THE REST OF THE
SENTENCE (noun)(verb) (adjective, adverb,
noun, complement, or nothing).

I have here examples of action verb.

1. Greg is kicking the ball now.
- The action verb is kicking.
- It describes what Greg is doing.
2. The wind blows constantly in Chicago.
- The action verb is blows.
- It describes what the wind does. - Me Teacher (Nathaniel is raising his
hand)
Who can give more example? - He accepted my apology.

- Accepted teacher.
Yes, Nathaniel.

What is the action verb used?

Very good Nathaniel!

- Sure teacher. A linking verb is a verb
that links (connects) the subject of the
The second type of verb is a linking verb. sentence to information about that
Denniel can you read what is a linking verb. subject.   Linking verbs do not
describe action. When using linking
verbs, the sentence structure will be:
SUBJECT--->LINKING VERB---
> INFORMATION ABOUT THE
SUBJECT (noun)(verb) (adjective,
noun, or complement). Some verbs
are ALWAYS linking verbs because
they never describe an action.  Other
verbs can be linking verbs in some
sentences and action verbs in other
sentences.

Very good Denniel!

The following three verbs are ALWAYS

linking verbs: to be (is, am, are, was, were,
has been, have been, had been, is being, are
being, was being, will have been, etc.)  to
become (become, becomes, became, has
become, have become, had become, will
become, will have become, etc.)  to
seem (seemed, seeming, seems, has seemed,
have seemed, had seemed, is seeming, are
seeming, was seeming, were seeming, will
seem)

Let us see what are the examples.

 1. “The ball is red.” 'Is' is a linking verb

that connects the subject, ball, to information
about that subject (that it is red).
2. “The children are smart.” 'Are' is a
linking verb that connects the subject,
children, to information about that subject
(that they are smart).
3. “The child will be tall five years from
now.” 'Will be' is the linking verb connecting
'child' to the fact that he will be 'tall five
years from now. - (Franshei is raising her hand)

Who can give more example? - 5. “The dog became thin after his

surgery.” 'Became' links the subject,
Yes, franshei. the dog, with information about him
(that he became thin).

Very good Franshei!

- Okay teacher. Helping verbs are used
Let us proceed to the third type, the before action or linking verbs to
Helping Verb. Jaycob please read it. convey additional information
