TOPIC: High Five Dance game
CLASS: Nursery Two
SUBJECT: Physical Development
TERM: First Term

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to;
i. Dance and move in a rhythmic, coordinated and expressive way.

CONTENTS:
Children love high fives. It’s one of their favorite mode of expression. It is one cool thing that
connects them with other children. This dance is nice if you want all the children to interact.

How To:

• Ask children to team up, i.e. every child needs one partner, and give each pair some time to
prepare.
• Each pair comes up to the stage area and faces each other.
• They will have to create a dance with claps, high fives, double fives, low fives and snapping.
• This one can even be done without music if required and claps can be used for rhythm.

EVALUATION:
i. Practice a High five dance game with your friend and sing a song along.
WEEK 3
TOPIC: Outdoor: Sand play
CLASS: Nursery Two
SUBJECT: Physical Development
TERM: First Term

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to;
i. Explore their environment by using sand to play
ii. Identify and differentiate the different types of sand/ soils

CONTENTS:
While playing in a sandpit, children make movements such as digging, scooping, pouring,
pushing and lifting. This activity strengthens the child's body.
Children can engage in these kinds of sand play:
1. Treasure Hunt: Treasures are kept in the sand for kids to hunt.
2. Imaginative Play: Building site with sand
3. Imaginative Play: Beach scene
4. Sand Art: Drawing patterns
5. Sand Art: Drawing pictures
6. Sand Art: Decorative jars using sand
7. Writing on sand
8. Sand Shakers
9. Sticky, Slimy and Modelling Play Sand
EVALUATION:
i. Select 3 kinds of sand play listed in the study and engage in them with your friends.
WEEK 4
TOPIC: Bounce and Catch
CLASS: Nursery Two
SUBJECT: Physical Development
TERM: First Term

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to;
i. Bounce and Catch balls to each other

CONTENTS:
Instructions:
1. Show the child how to drop a ball, let it bounce once, and then catch.
2. Encourage the child to drop and catch the ball many times in a row.
3. Let the child try different sizes of balls, and start with balls that are easier to catch (e.g.
larger balls).

This activity develops hand-eye coordination, as well as control of the hands and fingers.
EVALUATION:
i. Play “bounce and catch” with a ball of your choice.
WEEK 5
TOPIC: Bowling
CLASS: Nursery Two
SUBJECT: Physical Development
TERM: First Term

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to;
i. Perform bowling activity by throwing an object over a perceived distance

CONTENTS:
What is Bowling?
Bowling is a target sport and recreational activity in which a player rolls or throws a ball or an
object toward pins or another target to make them fall.
▪ Few empty milk cartons or plastic drink bottles are filled with 2cm of sand/ gravel.
▪ Cartons/ plastics are set up as a bowling agent.
▪ Pupils in pairs bowl from a shorter distance to a far distance by throwing the bowling
agents against the filled bottles.
EVALUATION:
i. Engage yourself and two of your friends in a bowling game using any bowling agent
provided.
WEEK 7
TOPIC: Follow their Leader
CLASS: Nursery Two
SUBJECT: Physical Development
TERM: First Term

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to;
i. Perform follow the leader activity with their peers.

CONTENTS:
A leader will be chosen among the pupils to lead his/ her peers around, over, through an obstacle
on the playground.
The pupil leaders are encouraged to vary their movements with walking, running, changing
direction, stopping and starting.
EVALUATION:
i. Choose a leader among yourselves and follow his/ her directions as instructed by your
teacher.
WEEK 8
TOPIC: Galloping
CLASS: Nursery Two
SUBJECT: Physical Development
TERM: First Term

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to;
i. Master the skills of galloping
ii. Practice galloping by using different fun activities

CONTENTS:
Pupils practice how to gallop like a horse by placing one footstep forward and trail foot
immediately then, “kick” forward to almost touch the back of the front foot.

Horse Races:

On your mark, get set, go! Gather the children together to have a horse race from one side of a
grassy area to the other. You can also set up an obstacle course by placing objects around your
yard. Ask the children to gallop to an object, move around it and gallop back as fast as possible.
Other challenges include jumping over a rope, hopping in and out of a plastic hoop, or switching
movements in the middle of the race.
Break it Down

Dissect the steps of a gallop by teaching the child the movement slowly. Standing next to each
other, choose one foot and step forward. This leg will always be ahead of the other during your
gallop. Bring your back leg up to meet the heel of your front leg. Kick your front leg out and
start over again. As the child masters the steps of a gallop, start moving faster together. Now, ask
him/ her to try it alone. Clap your hands to keep the rhythm or sing the song "Off to the Races"
as he/ she gallops along.

EVALUATION:
i. Practice galloping using any method of your choice.
WEEK 9
TOPIC: Body parts activity
CLASS: Nursery Two
SUBJECT: Physical Development
TERM: First Term

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to;
i. Perform a match body parts game with their peers.
ii. Identify their body parts.

CONTENTS:
Pupils should sing the song: Head, shoulder, knees and toes.

Head and shoulder, knees and toes


Knees and toes, eyes, ears,
mouth and nose…

"Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" is a traditional children's song. The song identifies parts of
the body, and is often accompanied with a dance in which children touch the part being sung.

✓ Pupils touch their body and the movement that goes with each of the words.
✓ Pupils sing the song and perform the movements at fast speed and slow speed
✓ Pupils perform matching and identify games with their peers.
EVALUATION:
i. Identify your body parts by singing Head and shoulder, knees, toes…
