Snorkeling and Scuba
Diving
FITT PRINCIPLE

FITT principle is an acronym for Frequency, Intensity,

Time and Type. These are the key factors in designing
an exercise program that will address the current
fitness level, provide means to overload the body and
trigger positive adaptations.
AQUATIC FITNESS

•is defined as activities performed

in the water that promote and
enhance physical and mental
fitness.
The water’s unique characteristics provide an environment for
activities and good workout. Buoyancy which is the upward force of
water on an object such as boat and people float on water. Another
characteristic of water is the hydrostatic pressure. It is the pressure
exerted by the water at equilibrium due to the force of gravity.
Together with buoyancy, it can keep us standing balance in water. And
the last one, water has an enhanced cooling characteristic. It transfers
heat away from the body much quickly than air. This is the reason why
we can tolerate longer workouts in the water without feeling being
overheated.
SNORKELING

• is peeking through life

underneath water by
swimming with the aid
of a snorkel and mask.
Through snorkeling,
one can observe under
water attractions for a
longer period of time.
Uses of Snorkeling

• a way of living such as spearing fish

• sports like underwater hockey and rugby
• used by rescue team in saving lives in the
water
Snorkeling Equipment

• Snorkel – makes it
possible to breathe at the
surface of the water
while the face is
submerged.
Snorkeling Equipment

• Mask/ Goggles –
serves as the viewing
device beneath the
water.
Snorkeling Equipment

• Fins – provides the

necessary locomotion
to propel effortlessly in
the water.
SCUBA
DIVING
• SCUBA is an acronym for Self-
Contained Underwater Breathing
Apparatus. Scuba diving is a
method of diving where a
diver uses a regulator as the
breathing apparatus and a tank
with compressed air. With this
equipment, a diver can explore
the waters for a longer period
of time and at greater depths.
Uses of SCUBA Diving

• cave diving
• earn a living
• underwater surveillance
• mine clearing
• rescue done by the military
Basic Equipment in Scuba Diving

• Dive mask – for

clearer view under
water.
Basic Equipment in Scuba Diving

• Snorkel – allows to
breathe in the
surface of water.
Basic Equipment in Scuba Diving

• Regulator – lets you

breathe under
water.
Basic Equipment in Scuba Diving

• Buoyancy Control
Device (BCD) – control
the position in the
water
Basic Equipment in Scuba Diving

• Octopus or Alternate
Air Source
Basic Equipment in Scuba Diving

• Weight belt – used to

counteract buoyancy
Basic Equipment in Scuba Diving

• Submersible Pressure
Gauge (SPG) – shows
how much air is left.
Basic Equipment in Scuba Diving

• Scuba tank – contains the

pressurized air which
allows the swimmer to
breathe underwater.
Basic Equipment in Scuba Diving

• Fins – provide the

propulsion that makes
it possible to swim
easier.
Basic Equipment in Scuba Diving

• Wet suit – provides

protection from the
coldness of the water
and from other elements.
Before participating in these water activities, you have to ask
yourself if you can do it. Will power will be always be there for
you but the skills, you have to have it. In this kind of water
activity, we should learn how to swim. In swimming, we have
five skills to learn. First, we should learn how to be comfortable
in the water; next is the breath control or learning how to
breathe while swimming; the third is we should know how to
float; then, how to properly use our legs and feet in kicking; and
lastly, we should learn some strokes like the front crawl,
sidestroke, backstroke, and butterfly.
ACTIVITY 2: TARA, BIYAHE TAYO! (Group Activity)
Direction: Choose a place here in the Philippines that you think the best place for aquatic activities.
Then, create a brochure or leaflets that will promote that place. Be creative with your work. It should
be catchy for someone. Printed or cut-and-paste/ drawn output will be accepted.
Materials:
1 short Bond paper or 5.5x8.5 (half of short bond paper)
Procedure:
1. Choose a place which you think will be the best place for snorkeling or scuba diving.
2. Make a brochure or leaflets about that place assuming you’ll be an agent of that place.
3. Paste some pictures of that place to make it more interesting.
4. The brochure or leaflets should have the benefits of participating in aquatic activities.
5. Be creative and artistic in working with your output.
Guide Questions: Answer the following questions.
1. Why do you choose that place?

________________________________________________________________________
________________________________________________________________________
______
2. What do you think are the differences of participating in aquatics to other outdoor
recreational activity? Defend your answer.

ACTIVITY 3: KAKASA KA BA? (Group Activity)
Direction: Snorkeling and scuba diving both
requires swimming skills. Below is a table of
an exercise program. Complete the table by
filing in the details needed. Answer the guide
questions after finishing your exercise
program.
Guide questions:
1. Is it important to prepare your body before participating in an outdoor recreational activity such as
aquatics?
2. What do you think are the benefits of participating in an aquatic recreational activity? How?
