1. Dilate triangle BCD from center A using a scale factor of 3. Challenge: Do this with just a ruler but
without measuring!
a. If I tell you the perimeter of triangle B’C’D’ is 48 what should the perimeter of the original
triangle be?
b. If I tell you the area of the original triangle is 10, what should the area of its image be?

4. A cube has edges of length 𝑥. The length of the cube is multiplied by 3, the width is halved,
and the height is not changed.
b. Is the volume of the new prism smaller, greater, or equal to the volume of the original
cube? Explain.
c. How would you have to change the height so that the new prism has the same volume
as the original cube?

5. Graph the relationship 𝑦 = 0.4𝑥 ! on the set of axes:
Use your graph to estimate the output when the input is 2.7.
6. Damion Turf’s Service charges $50 to clean a section of artificial turf 10 yd wide and 20 yd long.
Excluding the end zones, a football field is 50 yd wide and 100 yd long. How much should the
company charge to clear the football field? Show your work.

7. You have done the exercise of figuring out your feet area and your height, and so did your friend. You
got the following results: you have a foot area of 285 square centimeters and are 175cm tall. Your friend
has a foot area of 210 square centimeters and is 152 cm tall. Could you two be similar?
8. You found that the equation 𝑦 = 0.28𝑥 ! models fairly well the relationship between the length and
mass of a bird egg.
a. If a bird egg is 8.5 cm long, what does this model predict for the weight?
b. If the mass of a bird egg is 565 grams, what would we expect the length of the egg to be?
9. It costs $1.50 to travel each way on the city bus. A transit city “fast pass” costs $65 a month. Which is
the more economical way to get to work, the daily fare or the fast pass? Graph both options to support
your argument.
