CAE 214: THEORIES AND PRACTICES IN WRITING
Ma’am Salome Montemayor

Prepared by: Janrey L. Ramos

MAED-English

1. Which theory of writing would you advocate? Support your discussion with sound
reasons.

Answer:

Vygotsky’s Cognitive Development Theory

According to Vygotsky's Cognitive Development Theory, social interaction is

essential for cognitive development. Culture-specific tools, language and thinking
interdependence, and the Zone of Proximal Development are all concepts in Vygotsky's
theory. Furthermore, the theoretical notions offered here constitute part of the constructivism
basis and have substantially influenced the reorganization of formal educational systems.

Cognitive talents are socially guided and produced, according to Vygotsky's

Cognitive Development Theory. As a result, culture has a role in the formation and
development of certain skills including learning, memory, attention, and problem solving. It is
hypothesized that culturally specialized tools play an important role in how youngsters
organize and think about the world.

2. Discuss specific situations where each of the approaches in teaching writing might
seem most appropriate.

Answer:

Product Writing is a method of teaching writing that focuses on the ultimate product,
or the content that students are required to write. The importance of the final product has
increased, and this has an impact on how a product writing session is staged.

Your students' output will improve if they follow the writing process, and their writing
skills will improve if they do it on a regular basis, according to the process approach.
Furthermore, the quality of their work is more important than the manner in which they
accomplish it.

When you ask your pupils to create an essay or a poem in a specific genre, the
genre method is ideal. It's one method for pupils to be innovative and think outside of the
box.
Controlled writing is a teaching method in which students are given controlled
prompts to assist them in putting their thoughts on paper. A worksheet with tracing activities
could be given to children to help them focus on the shape and direction of the letter rather
than the words they are writing.

Observing the acts of others in their environment, or models, can teach people both
positive and harmful behaviors. Being nice and courteous, for example, is commonly
acquired through role models, as is behaving aggressively and violently in gang-infested
areas.

3. What is the place of writing in basic education subjects like Science and
Mathematics either in elementary, high school or college?

Answer:

Science is an excellent subject for students to learn because they are inherently
curious. Students can use science to learn about their surroundings and find new things. It's
also a very dynamic subject, including activities like hands-on laboratories and experiments.
As a result, science is a good fit for energetic young children. For all youngsters, science is a
vital component of the foundation for their education. While most people believe that science
is important in education, they tend to utilize it as a tool to achieve a certain goal or personal
mark, after which there is no need to pursue additional education. Nonetheless, education is
essential and cohesive in society, which is why society and knowledge cannot ever be split
into two independent entities. On the other hand, Mathematics is a great approach to
develop mental discipline while also encouraging logical reasoning and mental rigor.
Furthermore, understanding the topics of other educational courses such as science, social
studies, and even music and art is dependent on mathematical knowledge. That being said, I
believe that Math and Science are both equally vital in the curriculum because they play
important parts in the education of our students.
