Introduction:
– Dhanjal Brothers Limited was incorporated on 23rd April
1970 as a Building and Civil Engineering contractor.

Lumumba Road, Mombasa. DBL is well known nationally

Guarantees and Insurance:
The company is insured generally for construction
work at any one time worth up to KES 100,000,000.
Furthermore when a new contract is signed we
immediately insure the job for the requisite amount
and this protects the client against site risks (CAR
policy).

Quality Control:
The company contracts recognized quality control
institutions and materials consultants such as
SURTECH who perform tests for; concrete cube
capacity, CBR of gravels, Bore tests etc. This ensures
quality long lasting products.

Road & Highway Construction:
– Road building is one of the major sectors the
company operates in. With over 30 years
experience in building and maintaining roads, from
simple gravelling on country roads to class A roads
with high traffic counts. The company has
experience with the numerous complexities of
highway construction, and has successfully
undertaken the design and construction of several
types of pavements and wearing courses.
– A 100 Tons/hr mobile asphaltic concrete batching
plant can be set up on any site allowing quick
production of different graded asphalt mixes.

– The company has constructed several major
Concrete Batching Plant bridges as a main contractor and sub contractor.
DBL was sub contracted to do the New Nyali
approach roads and main bridge asphalt works by
the then Main Contractor M/S Sumitomo
Construction Co. Ltd. The Company was also sub-
contracted by Sumitomo on the subsequent
construction of Kilifi Bridge and access roads, the
company also supplied the building materials and
aggregates for both jobs.
The road over rail Bridge on the Kipevu Dual
Carriageway access to the Port of Mombasa was
constructed by DBL including the approach roads.
– In 2011– 2012 DBL constructed the Mwatsuma
bridge while undertaking the construction of the
Mariakani- Kaloleni Road C107, a 14m wide by
61m long bridge under KeNHA.

Yard Construction:
– We are experienced in all types of yard
construction and have completed; - 40,000 m3 in
concreting hard-standing areas; - 1000+ acres of
leveling and graveling yards - and Over 200 acres
of Cabro (PCC Paving Block) Yards.
– This includes several public works on large scale
yards and in the Kilindini port of Mombasa (Kenya
Ports Authority), as well as several private logistics
yards and CFS’s; Mitchell Cotts CFS, Boss Freight
Terminal, AO Bayusuf Transporters, Southern
Shipping Services Limited, Anwar Ali and Brothers
Limited and several others.

Building Construction:
– DBL has a rich heritage in the Building sector with 4
hotel complexes built, several office buildings and
boundary walls for the yards we have constructed.
– We operate pre-casting yards at 2 locations in
support of our building and civil works. We currently
manufacture 100mm/4” solid, 6” solid, 6” hollow,
200mm/8”solid, and 9” hollow blocks for use on our
building and boundary walling jobs. As well as
several precast units such as; kerbs, channels, spun
culverts, bollards as well as paving blocks of various
sizes on order.

Health & Safety Commitment:
– The company has a comprehensive Health and
Safety policy to ensure the wellbeing of all
company employees and the public at large. We
provide our clients with responsive, safe and
reliable services while adhering to the ideas of
sustainable environmental requirements. We give
priority to Environment, Health and Safety in all
projects. We believe that EHS contributes to our
competitive strengths and benefits our clients,
shareholders and employees by contributing to the
overall well-being and economic health of the
communities we serve.
– The management believes that effective
management of Environmental, Health and Safety
Management issues is fundamental to success,
and is therefore committed to continually
improving the EHS performance through setting
and monitoring of objectives and targets,
necessary training, encouraging new ideas,
employee participation, coordination with clients,
suppliers and annual management reviews.

We do so by adhering to the following principals:

A. Communication: We continuously engage our


employees, clients and suppliers for input on
local conditions and sustainable practice.
B. Prevention: We employ an EHS Officer on each
site to prevent activities and conditions that
pose a threat to human health, safety or the
environment. We minimize risk and protect our
employees and the communities in which we
operate by employing safe technologies and
operating procedures .
C. Compliance: strict compliance to EHS standards
is a key component of our training,
performance reviews and incentives to all
employees. We comply with all applicable laws
and regulations.

Heavy Machinery :
– All operators of heavy machinery are provided
with adequate and visible clothing, including
overalls with reflective strips, helmets, safety
boots, safety goggles, gloves and dust masks
(for open machinery)
– Foremen and labour assisting or around heavy
machinery will always wear a reflective jacket
or hi-vis overall, safety boots, gloves, safety
goggles and dust masks
– Maintenance- machines to be serviced as per
scheduled intervals, inspection and if needed
inspection/replacement of tyres and other
perishables should be done at minimum
monthly basis.
Tarmac work and other labour related
works :
– The company maintains a fleet of 3
asphaltic concrete pavers to undertake
jobs of varying sizes/widths. If only one
paver is required another is kept on standby
to ensure continuity
– The asphalt labour team is professionally
kitted out in heat resistant overalls, gloves
and safety boots (with pan attachments for
those walking on fresh tarmac), along with
the standard PPE’s; Safety Goggles,
Helmets, Reflective strips.
– The equipment for the labour including
rakes, brooms, spades etc. will be
purchased new to a high standard to
ensure the safety and productivity of the
labour.
First aid and emergency care:
– The company ensures that there is always a
first aid kit available on all sites and in each
machine, this alleviates the chance for
infection in the event of small injuries, the
company provides the foreman on site with
an emergency injury budget for
extraordinary cases in remote areas to be
spent at the nearest hospital or clinic.
– Work Injury Benefit (WIBA) protects against 11
serious injury.
