IDENTIFICATION FOR PLUMBING PIPING AND EQUIPMENT

O. Locate identification at maximum intervals of 6 m centers on straight runs including risers and
drops, adjacent to each valve and tee, at each side of penetration of structure or enclosure
and at each obstruction
3.02 PREPARATION
A. Degrease and clean surfaces to receive adhesive for identification materials
B. Prepare surfaces in accordance with Section 09 91 00 for stencil painting
3.03 IDENTIFICATION AND LOCATION
A. The color-coding of below and above ground utility pipeline except seawater supply and
return pipelines shall be accomplished by painting the base color or color band pipeline or by
color-coded longitudinal stripe on the top surface of installed pipe, upon approval by Royal
Commission. The base colors or bands and identifying color stripes for different utility
pipelines shall be as shown in Table 3A

B. Stripe shall be applied either by painting or by self-adhesive plastic tape of the applicable
color throughout the length of the pipeline as approved by the Royal Commission. Stripe
width shall be one-third of the pipe diameter for size 100 mm diameter and above. For pipe
size less than 100 mm diameter, stripe shall be one-half of the pipe diameter. For exposed
portion of below grade pipelines, the stripe shall be applied for the entire length of the
pipeline at the following locations:
1. At the first 3 m interval of pipe on each side of valves, tees and other fittings of
importance
2. At the first 3 m interval of pipe adjacent to tanks, vessels and pumps
3. At the first 3 m interval of pipe entering and emerging from walls, grades and other
concealed structures
4. At uniform intervals of 15 m on center along the entire pipeline
C. Other Identification
1. The content of the pipeline shall be painted on the pipeline by legend in both Arabic and
English and the direction of flow shall be painted on the pipeline with arrow
3.04 EQUIPMENT IDENTIFICATION
A. Identify air handling units, pumps, heat transfer equipment, tanks and water treatment
devices with plastic nameplates. Small devices, such as in-line pumps, may be identified
with tags
B. Identify control panels and major control components outside panels with plastic nameplates
C. Install and permanently fasten equipment nameplates on each major item of mechanical
equipment that does not have nameplate, or has nameplate but it is damaged or located
inconspicuous to the User/Maintenance. Locate nameplates where accessible and visible.
Include nameplates for the following general categories of equipment:
1. Plumbing Equipment
2. Medical Gas Equipment such as instruments, outlets/inlets, medical equipment, etc
D. Install equipment markers with permanent adhesive on or near each major item of
mechanical equipment
1. Letter Size
a. Minimum 6.5 mm for name of units if viewing distance is less than 600 mm, 13 mm
for viewing distances up to 1830 mm and proportionately larger lettering for greater
viewing distances. Include secondary lettering two-thirds to three-fourths the size of
principal lettering
