Factoring of Polynomials
Factoring of Polynomials
when the terms are multiplied together, they are equivalent to its actual
polynomial. Factoring is used to make it easier to solve complex equations.
Step 2: Factor out the GCF by dividing the GCF on all the terms.
5 3
3 12n 16 n
4n ( 3
+ 3
)
4n 4n
3 2 4
5 3
3 12n 16 n
4n ( 3
+ 3
)
4n 4n
4 n3 (3 n2 +4)
Factoring by Groupings
Factoring by grouping is used when there is no common factor on all the terms.
3 2
5 mn+ 25 m+3 n +15 n
Step 1: Group the terms that have the same factors in pairs.
3 2 2
The GCF of 3 n ∧15 n is 3 n
5 3

5 m n 25 m 2 3n 15 n
5 m( + )+3 n ( 2 + )
5m 5m 3 n 3 n2
5 m(n+5)+3 n2 (n+5)
Step 2: Check if the X and Y terms have perfect squares. If yes, then we can use the
difference of two squares equation.
√ 49 x 2=7 x
√ 4 y 2=2 y
They are perfect squares, therefore we can use the Difference of Two Squares
Equation.
x 2− y 2=( x+ y)( x− y )
x=√ 49 x =7 x
2
y= √ 4 y =2 y
