SECTION 11
Every province in the Philippines has its own tourist destinations. And every travel of
tourists, they will know and learn something new from different province. Traveling is not just
about seeing new destinations, traveling is also about knowing the attitudes of locals, cultures,
foods, festivals, beliefs, and even the religions in places or provinces. The Bangsamoro
Autonomous Religion of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) is one of the regions in the Philippines
where many Filipinos or tourists believes that it is unsafe for tourists because of the conflicts that
happens in the regions such as terrorism. And in today’s time, the province is on its way now on
achieving the peace of the region for the locals and for its tourists.
In the year 2019, the Philippine government and Moro secessionist or the MILF both
agreed to establish the peace in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao
(BARMM) to end the conflicts that are happening to the region for many years now. These
conflicts really affect the tourism of the BARMM because of what happened for many years and
the media made it even worse and criticize not even just the image of the region but also the
locals or the Philippine Muslims in Mindanao got criticized as well. Which further frightens the
tourists to go and explore the BARMM.
I have seen a couple of videos from foreign vloggers named, Tal also known as The
Traveling Clatt, Erwan Heusaff, and Kulas known for his YouTube channel named Becoming
Filipino. These are the vloggers who went to the region of Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of
Muslim Mindanao to find out if the region is a safe place for tourist destination because of
different criticism to BARMM. You can watch their vlogs about their adventure on their
YouTube channels. From what they have seen and experienced from traveling to BARMM, the
people in the region are very kind, friendly, and hospitable. They are well accommodated by the
locals, and they are very welcomed. They have proven to us that the different criticism from
media is not really true through their different experiences. Even Kulas gets emotional from his
video about generalizing, stereotyping, and talking negative about the Philippine Muslim in
Mindanao. Other Filipinos think that the BARMM is a dangerous place which creates walls
between Philippine Muslim in Mindanao and to other Filipinos. And the videos of these 3
different amazing vloggers helps to destroy these walls and start to build a bridge between
Philippine Muslim of Mindanao and other Filipinos. The criticism in media divides the Filipino
and the religions, and these vloggers broke it by showing how safe in BARMM and how kind
and respectful are the Philippine Muslims in Mindanao.
BARMM is well deserved to be in a tourists’ bucket list because it offers different
destination such as falls, mosques, lakes, and a lot more. Tourist will also know and learn the
Muslim’s culture through their festivals, products, foods, religion, and the way of their living.
Tourists will also learn about the Muslim Religion through going to different Mosques that they
have such as the popular Masjid Dimaukom or the Pink Mosque and the Sultan Haji Hassanal
Bolkiah Mosque or the Grand Mosque of Cotabato which is the largest mosque that you will find
in the Philippines. Tourists will also taste the food of BARMM which we cannot see or find in
other places or in the Capital city of the Philippines.
As a tourist, giving respect and kindness is very important when traveling because if we
give it, that is what we also get from other people or from the locals. Locals in BARMM will
definitely guide the tourists just like every local in every province in the Philippines. Traveling in
BARMM will show the tourists not just how beautiful the destinations in the region but also how
beautiful the locals are.
