Reasoning Question & Answers

1) Direction: A word is represented by only one set of numbers as given in any

one of the alternatives. The sets of numbers given in the alternatives are
represented by two classes of alphabets as in two matrices given below. The
columns and rows of Matrix I are numbered from 0 to 4 and that of Matrix II are
numbered from 5 to 9. A letter from these matrices can be represented first by its
row and next by its column, e.g. `A' can be represented by 03, 10 etc. and 'FY can
be represented by 58, 65 etc. Similarly, you have to identify the set for the word
'BEAK'.

6 D L R E K

7 E K D L R

8 L R E K D

9 K D L R E

a) 44 75 22 88
b) 20 10 87 57

c) 44 88 10 75

d) 32 76 75 22

Ans. (a.)

Explanation: Let us find the code for the given work-

B= 01, 13, 20, 32, 44;

E= 56, 68, 75, 87, 99;

A= 03, 10, 22, 34, 41;

K= 57, 69, 76, 88, 95;

From the above deductions, we can find that option (a.) is the most appropriate answer.

Directions: In Question nos. 2 to 7, select the related word/letters/number from

the given alternatives.

2) Insects : Entomology : : Snakes : ?

a) Agrology
b) Mycology

c) Cetology

d) Ophiology

Ans. (d.)

Explanation: Entomology is the science of studying insects. Similarly, Ophiology is the

branch of zoology that deals with snakes.

3) Kidneys: Nephron : : Central Nervous System : ?

a) Brain

b) Cerebrum

c) Spinal cord

d) Neurons

Ans. (d.)

Explanation: Nephrons are the functional units in the kidney. Similarly, Neurons are a
specialized cell transmitting nerve impulses.
4) Y2 : 4 : : V2 : ?

a) 16

b) 49

c) 9

d) 25

Ans. (d.)

Explanation: ‘Y’ is the second letter in the alphabetic series from the last and the
square of 2 is 4. Similarly, ‘V’ is the fifth letter in the alphabetic series from the last.
Hence, the required answer will be 25.

5) JOKE: GLHB : : RISK : ?

a) OFPH

b) SJTL

c) ULVN

d) QHRJ
Ans. (a.)

Explanation: JOKE ------(-3)(-3)(-3)(-3) ----------- GLHB;

Similarly, RISK ------(-3)(-3)(-3)(-3) ----------- OFPH.

6) 4 : 17 : : 7 : ?

a) 49

b) 51

c) 48

d) 50

Ans. (d.)

Explanation: (4)2 +1 = 17; Similarly, (7)2 + 1 = 50;

7) DFHJ : WUSQ : : HJLN : ?

a) PRTW

b) RTVX
c) TWYZ

d) SQOM

Ans. (d.)

Explanation: DFHJ ----- (4)(6)(10)(12); positions of these letters from the starting in
the alphabetic series. Similarly, WUSQ has the same position from the last of the
alphabetic series.

HJLN ------ (8)(10)(12)(14);

Hence, the required answer will be SQOM.

Directions: In Question nos. 8 to 10, a series is given, with one/two term missing.
Choose the correct alternative from the given ones that will complete the series.

8) FAK, IEM, LIO,  ? .

a) MNO

b) OPQ

c) NOP

d) OMQ
Ans. (d.)

Explanation: FAK ------ (+3)(+4)(+2) ------- IEM ------ (+3)(+4)(+2) ------- LIO ------
(+3)(+4)(+2) ------- OMQ.

9) 3, 5, 35, 10, 12, 35, ___, ___

a) 17, 19

b) 19, 35

c) 19, 24

d) 22, 35

Ans. (a.)

Explanation: we can group these numbers in the following manner-

(3, 5, 35), (10, 12, 35) and (x, y, z); here, we have to find x, y, and z;

In the above series, first and second numbers are in arithmetic progression with
common difference 7. Besides this, third number remains unchanged.

a) 20

b) 22

c) 26

d) 23

Ans. (b.)

Explanation: The given series alternatively progresses by subtracting 2 and 4

respectively. Hence, the required number will be 22.

Directions: In Question nos. 11 to 13, from the given alternative words, select the
words which cannot be formed using the letters of the given word.

11) SUPERINTENDENT

16)

a) 61 - 12

b) 34 - 30

c) 44 - 31

d) 25 - 21
Ans. (c.)

Explanation: 61 – 12 ; => (6 + 1) – (1 + 2); => 7 – 3;

34 – 30 ; => (3 + 4) – (3 + 0); => 7 – 3;

44 – 31; => (4 + 4) – (3 +1); => 8 – 4;
