Integration and Its Applications

This document provides a revision sheet on integration and its applications for an A2-Mathematics class. It covers six main types of integration: 1) polynomials, 2) trigonometry, 3) key techniques using derivatives, 4) exponentials, 5) integration by parts, and 6) integration by substitution. It also discusses differential equations and applications of integration such as area under a curve, trapezium rule, and volume. Several example questions are provided at the end from past papers to help students practice different types of integration problems.

 Type 2  Trigonometry : Remarks on Trig Integration :
  sin x dx =  cos x  c
 sinax  b dx = a1 cosax  b  c
  cos x dx = sin x  c
  sec x dx = tan x  c

  sec x tan x dx = sec x  c

 To integrate other trig ratios, you may
  cosec x cot x dx =  cosec x  c use trig rules first.
 Type 3  Key technique : 

To integrate sin x or cos x you
 f ( x)n1  c may use cos 2 x rules.

  bx dx = b ln x  c
 Type 5  Integration by Parts :
  uv dx = uv   vu  dx  c
 Type 6  Integration by substitution :
 Convert the limits.
 Get the derivative of x .
 Substitute.

2. Differential Equations :
 Steps of solving, when you are asked to solve adifferential equation or a point is given :
 Separate the variables and integrate both sides of integration (don’t foget to put
( c) .
 Use the point to get ( c ), then find the needed value.
 When you are asked to find the General Solution, it means to get the equation
with (  c ) [Don’t remove c]

 In problems of liquid flow in and out  = rate of pouring –rate of leaking .
