Abstract
The customary Automatic child cradle frameworks are excessively lavish and they
additionally don't offer much usefulness. This venture intends to help those moms who
are excessively occupied and don't have a cleaning specialist or sitter to deal with their
infants. This paper portrays the configuration of a programmed cradle which
fundamentally chips away at location of infant development with the assistance of a PIR
sensor. PIR sensor detects the movement of infant. After the location of enlivening of
infant various occasions are terminated which incorporate sending notices to mother by
SMS, swinging of cradle with the goal that the child feels good. In the event that the child
does not rest and/or quiets down after a certain period, a warning (SMS) is sent to the
parent saying that the infant needs their consideration. The cradle likewise incorporates
extra things like observing the temperature of the infant to give therapeutic
thoughtfulness regarding the child and cautions the parent if the body temperature of the
child goes above to given threshold temperature. The cradle additionally incorporates a
wet sensor which will caution the parent or the attendant/sitter for bunk wetting of the
infant. It will help to keep the infant in a hygienic environment. The framework is kept
negligible as far as fittings as greatest measure of usefulness of the cradle is performed
through Arduino. The cradle is vitality productive and obliges no physical consideration.

1. Introduction
Generally, the baby cradle is used for to make sleep and soothe to baby. For example
guardian have to take care of their child till as they asleep. However, conventional cradle
does not electronically equipped such like battery or adapter to automate the cradle
automatically. In Addition to that, these kind of conventional cradle is used in villages
areas or non-developed cities due to its low prices. But the problem of this kind of
designated cradle is that you need manpower to take care of your child and your child
may not be safe and feel comfortable in the conventional cradle. Thus, we need automatic
cradle to take care of child which uses the battery or power source.
Besides, there are extra features or function is provided by the newly automatic cradle
that is beneficial for parents. Because in the present world people are very busy in their
professional life so they do not get ample time to take care of their infants. It will be very
hard to even for the homemakers (mummy) to sit nearby their babies and sooth them
whenever they feel uncomfortable. Though, it is automatic this application is very useful
for the nurses in maternity units of hospital.

The cradle which is manually designed does not require any power supply to operate. The
guardian have to cradle their child themselves whenever needed. There are many manual
cradle design available in the market such as wood cradle and cloth cradle
But now days there is automatic cradle available with the addition feature. This kind of
extra additional feature is added to the newly Automatic cradle is beneficial for the users.
According to the researchers there are useful ways to pacify and calm the baby which are
given as:
Rocking motion
Singing a song
Temperature conditioning
Automatic cradle is one of the safest place for baby to comfort sleep and babies’ like the
cradle and they enjoy in the cradle because they are habituate to rocking and all babies
have already rocked in their mom’s wombs. During the time of pregnancy whenever
mother breathing and movement of mother as well as through heart beat they enjoy
rocking through mentioned activity. The Vestibules is established from the 3rd month
onwards and fully established at the time of birth. This the reason why baby feels
comfortable whenever the cradle swings.

5. Expected outcomes
After this project is completed successfully we expect that
The temperature of both the baby and the environment will be controlled and if it
rise above or move down the parent will be informed with a short text message.
If the pressure of the baby increases above the normal the controller consider that
the baby is crying and it tries to move the cradle left to right and open music to
make the baby silent.
This project is priority implemented in relation to performing the following basic tasks
these are checking blood pressure of baby, temperature of baby, temperature of
surrounding environment, wetness of baby cradle, sleeping of baby, generating music to
the baby and also dc motor control will be included .

7. Literature review
Yang Hu suggested an algorithm for adjusting the cradle swaying extent by the sensor
signals. The cradle is made up of an adaptive swaying device and other sensors network.
While baby is crying, the sensors network can judge the reason according to detecting
parameters, giving the different signals to control circuit.[1]
Steven Bang invented automatic baby rocker having a noise sensor to detect baby cry.
Noise sensor consists of Electric MIC with a pre amplifier. Signal from noise sensor is
fed to microcontroller, which is used to control the DC motor. Few colorful lights made
up of LED are used to entertain the baby while being rocked. [2]
The system designed by Nitin Bhatnagar, Kshitij Shinghal, Amit Saxena, Niket Tiwari,
Shubham Bhatnagar, Shushant Kumar helps parents and nurses in infant’s care. The
design aims at automatic swinging of cradle when baby cries. If the baby stops crying
before 2 minutes, then the cradle will stop automatically after 3 minutes of swinging. It
also sounds an alarm if baby cries for more than a stipulated time of 2 minutes indicating
that baby needs attention and another alarm when mattress gets wet.[3]
Rachana Palaskar, Shweta Pandey, Ashwini Telang, Akshada Wagh and Ramesh M.
Kagalkar suggested a design so that nanny and parents could take care of child without
physical attention. DC motor can offer movement motion according to its rated power.
As per microcontroller programming the motor rotates in right-handed direction for three
seconds and then in anticlockwise direction for three second. Additional features include:
Alert parent when the mattress gets wet and information regarding the temperature by
sending SMS.[4]
Marie R. Harper designed a crib adapted for automatic swinging. Once the crib is
manually tilted in one direction and released, this permits the inertia to actuate the
locking and actuating arms to operate under the biasing force of spring in conjunction
with the gear. Thus, the spring loaded motor begin to operate and the lever, which is
attached, to crib is oscillated in back and forth movement.[5]

Misha Goyal and Dilip Kumar introduced automatic baby cradle which includes a
microphone to detect baby cry and to it convert into electric signal, op-amp which used as
amplifier for signal conditioning circuit and a microcontroller to receive the amplified
signal and to convert the amplified signal to digital signal. Microcontroller controls the
drive circuit that starts a motor and sways the baby cradle. [6]
Purpose of Materials
1. Heart bit Sensor: This sensor will be used for the purpose of measuring the baby
heart bit. This sensor has effect of sensing bit change as baby becomes angry and it is
simple to use. We have selected the general purpose sensor with specification of wave
length of 609nm and operating voltage of 3/5 volts [5].
2. Arduino UNO: Arduino UNO is the microcontroller board and the Arduino AT
MEGA328 model will be used in this project. And Arduino is used for the quickly
developed interactive objects, taking input from variety of switches or sensors and
controlling a variety of outputs such as automate the motor and detect the temperature
sounds and light this is called physical computing[6].

3. GPRS Shield: GPRS shield has provides the use in the GSM cell phone module to
receive information or data from the any location in this project the SIM 900 module has
been used to send the SMS to the parents [7].
4.Motor shield :The arduino motor shield will be used and it is based on the H-bridge
chip L 298 driver integrated circuit .this motor shield mount with arduino and enable the
geared motor which help in swing of cradle [8].
5. Gear motor or geared motor: As the name implies it is a motor having an attached
”gear assembly” (or gear train) which enables the gear motor to provide greater torque at
a lower rpm than the motor alone would be capable of providing. In our experiments
however, we will not need the gear assembly. We will use a 300 rpm, 12V motor to
control the speed and direction.
6. Single sided copper cladded board: The copper cladded board will be used for the
wet detecting as a wet sensor [9].
7. Vernier surface temperature sensor- The surface temperature sensor of model STS-
BTA will be used that has exposed thermistor to detect the temperature quickly [10].
8. The 9V power supply: the two 9V power supply has been used in this project of the
energizer company. It will be used to give power supply to arduino to function of the
prototype.
9. Sound sensor: This sensor is for sensing sound of baby if baby cries and will be used
with a specification of any type found at local market.

2. Automatic Swing
The automated cradle works on two modes: a low speed mode and a high-speed mode.
While providing both the modes, sufficient care has been taken to maintain a speed in
such a range that the baby doesn’t get disturbed during the change of mode.
The speed of the DC motor is directly proportional to the supply voltage it is provided
with and hence if the supply voltage changes, the speed of the motor varies accordingly.
Here the voltage regulator is designed using LM317. For speed control purpose, voltages
of 12V and 7V are given to the DC motor. While the 12V is directly derived from the
supply mains via an adapter, 7V is derived using LM317.
3. Wet Detection
The indication is through a LED. Care has been taken that the wet detection circuit
operates on low voltage levels to reduce the risks of baby experiencing discomfort. A
separate small battery has powered the wet detection circuit. The wet detection circuit is
basically an astable multivibrator circuit with a break in its path in the form of detector.
Detector is actually two plates with a break in between hence when a liquid falls in the
path, it completes the conductivity route and hence generation of waveforms occurs.
They cause the LED in the output to blink till the path is connected.
4. Music Generation
The music circuit is controlled by a remote control. The mother can vary its volume and
can turn music ON/OFF according to the requirement. The volume range is appropriately
decided such that its sound does not disturbing. The Music Generator circuit is essentially
a melody generator using UM66. A supply voltage of 6V is given to the IC. The IC
outputs the melody in terms of current changes in the output of the IC. A transistor is
used to drive the speaker as per the melody and music is thus generated.
5. Fan Facility
The fan can be conveniently turned on and off by the controller (arduino).

keypad manually by the parent or baby sitter. The system also can be stopped partially
using this keypad. This keypad may be changed by remote control as per care takers
want.
