ABOUT

Faculty of Law, Jamia Millia Islamia

Jamia Millia Islamia is one of the most prestigious central universities of India. The Faculty of
Law, Jamia Millia Islamia was established in 1989. Initially, it offered a 3-year LL.B. program
but from the academic session of 2002-2003, it has introduced the 5 year integrated course,
B.A.LL.B. (Hons). In 2021, Faculty of Law, received 7th rank in NIRF by the Ministry of
Education. The current Dean of the Faculty is Prof. (Dr.) Eqbal Hussain.

Nyaya Bandhu (Pro Bono Legal Services) Programme

Sh. Ravi Shankar Prasad, Hon'ble Minister for Law & Justice, launched the Pro bono legal
services scheme in April 2017. It aims to integrate the law students from various universities
across the country for bettering the efficiency and quality of Pro Bono legal services. It helps
in enhancing ‘access to justice’ for marginalized sections and fulfils the constitutional mandate
to provide 'free legal aid' to all.

Pro Bono Club, J.M.I.

Here, selected law students (known as 'Pro Bono Associates' or PBA) are part of Pro Bono
clubs attached to law schools. Pursuant to this, the Faculty of Law, Jamia Millia Islamia has
been integrated under NAYAYA BANDU (Pro Bono legal services) PROGRAMME by the
Ministry of Justice, Government of India.

The Intra Faculty Article Writing Competition

The ProBono Club of Faculty of Law, Jamia Millia Islamia is delighted to organize an Intra
Faculty Article Writing Competition, which would assist in acquainting the budding lawyers
with the basics of Pro Bono legal services by encouraging them to research and articulate their
thoughts on themes revolving around legal aid jurisprudence and functioning in India. It would
help students improve their reading, writing, and researching skills. We wish to provide a
platform to understand and appreciate the underlying concept of pro-bono legal framework in
India.
Students can submit their articles related to the theme “Essence of Pro Bono Legal
Services in India”

The participants can choose any contemporary topic on the theme of their own choice or choose
any one of the suggested topics for their articles:

1. Pro Bono legal services under the Scope of Corporate Social Responsibility.

2. Pro Bono Activities and their Need/Role in Contemporary Indian Law Schools.

3. Proportionality between quality service and pro bono service- affecting rights of victims

4. Codification of Pro Bono legal services: a need of the hour.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES FOR INTRA-FACULTY ESSAY WRITING


COMPETITION

 The manuscript must be in MS Word format. Submission in any other format will not
be accepted.
 Word limit for the essay is 1200-1500 words, exclusive of the footnotes.
 Language of the entries shall be in English.
 Co-authorship is not permitted.
 Only one entry per participant is allowed.
 Formatting guidelines: The body of the essay must be in Times New Roman font,
Size 12; 1.5 Line spacing; justified. Footnotes in Times New Roman font, Size 10.
 The submission should have a cover page mentioning the Title of the essay, Author’s
Name, Semester, Roll no., and Student ID.
 The article must be unpublished, original and not under review in any other platform.
 All the submissions will be checked for plagiarism and the acceptable limit is up to
15%. Submission breaching the permissible limit will be liable for rejection.
 A uniform method of citation must be adhered to i.e., ILI Rules of Footnoting.

ELIGIBILTY

All students from 1st year to 5th year of B.A. LL.B. (Hons), Faculty of Law, Jamia Millia
Islamia are eligible to participate in the competition.

IMPORTANT DATES

 Last date for receiving entries: 28.04.2022 before 23:59 Hrs.


 Announcement of the winning entries: 30.04.2022.

AWARDS

 Prize of Rs.1000/- each would be given to top two articles.


 All the participants would be provided with e-certificates.
