In May 2011 I successfully completed a four-year degree in Public Relations. I was fortunate enough to secure an entry-level role at Premier PR, where I assisted on home entertainment publicity campaigns. Unfortunately I was forced to hand in my notice as the London based family member that I was staying with became terminally ill, and I sadly could not afford to relocate on my salary. I secured a retail position in Bournemouth over the Christmas period, but I am now dedicated to securing a role in London and relocating. My internship at BBC Worldwide had an impact on my passion and interest in media and entertainment, and I am dedicated to pursuing a career within these industries. I am a creative, enthusiastic, professional, conscientious, organised and hard working individual, who excels within a workplace environment and is always willing to go that extra mile. I can work efficiently individually or as a member of a team, and I feel the skills that I possess would be an asset to any potential employer, and I look forward to the new challenges that my future may hold.
Employment/Work experience
1DUpdates Facebook, Twitter and Website Publicity and Press Co-ordinator
September 2011-November 2011
This was a voluntary role for a friend. I drove traffic to pre-existing platforms by building relationships with key press, and third party organisations. I worked with HMV, Vivid Imaginations, Mizz magazine and TOTP magazine during the two months, and we gained 25,000 extra followers on Twitter, 4,000 Likes on Facebook, and over 18,000 unique user hits on 1DUpdates.co.uk.
I worked within the Home Entertainment division, assisting with DVD publicity for titles by HBO Home Entertainment, Momentum Pictures, Icon and Artificial Eye. I monitored and saved coverage, placed competitions online and in press, distributed review materials and managed all press release distribution.
I completed work experience in the press office for Radio 1, 1Xtra, Switch, BBC Introducing and the BBC Asian Network. I assisted with events and press related activities, I monitored and saved all coverage received and monitored celebrity interviews and future live lounge sessions and transcribed press worthy sections.
I completed a 54-week paid internship at BBC Magazines, the publishing arm for BBC Worldwide. This position provided me with hands on PR experience and exposure to a working press office. I implemented and assisted with strategies for a wide range of titles. On a daily basis I: wrote releases; arranged interviews; constructed promotional material; and would complete admin-based tasks for my team. The role required a high level of organisation, the ability to multitask and work within a team and excellent communication skills.
2009-2010
2008-2009
This role required me to attend monthly meetings with local PR professionals. I also had to arrange a Meet the Professionals Evening where first year students interacted and networked with industry Gemma Diaper
professionals. A high standard of written and verbal skills were required for this, as well as remaining organised and approachable at all times.
2005 - 2006
I acted as PR executive for the web site and arranged exclusives. For this role I developed and maintained contact with the record company, and in turn this generated awareness of the website and the band.
