Circle Theorem 1-9C

1) The document outlines 9 circle theorems relating to angles and chords in circles. 2) The theorems state properties such as the angle at the center being twice the angle at the circumference on the same arc, angles in the same segment being equal, and tangents from the same point being equal. 3) The theorems can be used to determine unknown angle measures based on their relationships to other angles, chords, radii, and tangents of circles.

Math- CIRCLE THEOREM

Circle Theorem 1

THE ANGLE AT THE CENTRE OF A CIRCLE IS TWICE THE ANGLE AT THE

CIRCUMFERENCE STANDING ON THE SAME ARC ( OR CHORD).
Circle Theorem 2
The angle opposite to the centre in a semicircle is a right angle.
Circle Theorem 3

Angles in the same segment are equal (subtended by the same chord/arc).
Circle Theorem 4
In a cyclic- quadrilateral, opposite angles are supplementary (ie, adds up to 180o)
Circle Theorem 5
In a cyclic quadrilateral, the exterior angle is equal to the opposite interior angle.
Circle Theorem 6
The line from the center to the midpoint of a chord is at 900.
NB: The 2 radii which touch the endpoints of the chord are equal thus forming an isosceles
triangle.
Circle Theorem 7
The angle formed by a radius and a tangent is at 900 (right angle).
Circle Theorem 8
The tangents to a circle from the same point are equal.
Circle Theorem 9
The angle formed by a chord and a tangent is equal to the opposite interior angle sharing the
same chord.
