Skin Feedback: General Cost and Benefit Overview

The document compares the costs and benefits of obtaining new character skins in a mobile game. It finds that skins: - Can cost significantly more gems or in-game currency than obtaining new characters or fully awakening existing ones. - Provide minimal combat benefits and mostly just additional voicelines and a few poses, without significant sexual content. - Have high randomness/luck involved and are very difficult or impossible to obtain without spending in-game currency. - Have generated significant negative feedback from players who see the monetization of skins as exploitative and harming the long-term health of the game's community. Adjustments will likely be needed to improve player satisfaction.

Problems with skins
Skins have been received extremely poorly by the playerbase. The discord community is angry with
the direction the game is taking, many are asking themselves if you are trying to kill off the game soon
and just extract as much money short term as you can. From what I can see in the Discord
community, more and more big spenders are leaving the game lately because they are angry at the
practices employed. The moderate spenders and free to play crowd is also angry.
New players coming into the Discord are also turned away from the game like this. They see the
negativity and leave, and no one actually recommends people to play the game when stuff like this is
happening.
When you lose a lot of players who don’t pay a lot for your game, the whales (big spenders) will follow
soon. If they have no active opponents in PvP, whales will get bored and stop spending too.

I hope this feedback can lead to some adjustments on the skins so that players can feel happy about
the feature and will continue playing the game.

The following feedback will be largely based on the above table and the Treasure Hunt Data sheet but
add some additional points.
- Skins provide nothing of value that other formats don’t do better, except a few extra
voicelines. This is a porn game, most people are here for the porn. So this makes the value
on skins extremely bad with their pricing. They provide only 2 poses with no sex on top, only
some teasing. This for a price that is:
- Not at all comparable to H Events
- More expensive than a completely new unit in step up
- Depending on skin possibly even more expensive than a full awakening if stones are
bought exclusively in secret shop.
- All 3 listed options above provide more H content, a lot more for some.
- On top of that the added PvP stats are also not at all comparable to the value that a new unit
or awakening brings
- New units and awakenings can be grinded for free over time even. This is not possible for
skins for the reasons outlined in the table above and the Treasure Hunt Data sheet.
- The Gacha system on Unas skin with the heavy RNG feels really terrible. The cost can go a
lot above the average really fast.
- The initial coin cost to upgrade a skin to level 10 was outright prohibitive even for players who
spend hundreds of dollars each month on the game. Over 7 million coins, which is almost
double than what a full awakening costs for coins. This got adjusted fast which was nice, but
how did this even happen? With this move you made even the people who pay a lot of money
for your game angry. Why would you do that?
- The trial skin system as it is is badly designed. I see you want to entice players to spend by
giving them a preview, but since the trial skin takes up a Treasure Hunt floor or a Gacha Pool
clear for Una by itself, it just makes it even more expensive to actually get enough pieces to
unlock the permanent skin.
- The skin Gacha yet again contains seduce items for monster girls and blue tickets. Your
playerbase has been complaining for over a year now that we get too many of those items,
the monster girl room is dead and unused. Stop throwing those items at us and give us
something slightly useful at least, a few coins, S material chests, energy, anything…
This has been confirmed to be adjusted already which is great, it just should not have been
released in this state.
All of the above points lead to your playerbase being extremely unsatisfied and angry with how skins
are handled. They come across as nothing but a greedy mechanic designed to extract as much
money from our pockets as possible without any way to get them for a reasonable price. Player
happiness doesn’t seem to have been taken into account.

An extremely high price to unlock or max out a skin fast is not a problem if there is ways to still grind
at least some out over time. This is exactly how awakenings work, which people also complained
about when they came out. Awakenings are extremely expensive and it’s impossible for moderate
spenders to max awaken all girls, but they can awaken a few of their choice for less money or even
for no money if they are dedicated at playing the game. The latter possibility is simply non-existant for
skins, and that is why the skins have been received extremely negatively.

If Unas skin and similar skins will actually be obtainable for moderate spending in a reasonable
timeframe because the event reruns more often than we expect, then it was an extremely poor idea to
not inform your players about this.
It’s well known that it’s easier to get money out of people in multiple payments over a longer period of
time instead of at once. Since we have to assume the Una skin event will not rerun often, it forces the
players wanting to max it out to make a big investment at once. Giving multiple chances for smaller
spending would entice people a lot more into spending money. This is really bad psychologically. So
even exclusively from the perspective of earning money and ignoring player happiness, I can’t
understand the decisions made.

On top of all that, Unas 2nd pose (lv10 skin) voiceline doesn’t loop properly when tapping her. The
voiceline interrupts itself and restarts. The voiceline isn’t even cut properly, it’s audibly cut off too early
at the end. When people pay that much money for something already underwhelming, at least what is
there should be polished.

After everything already listed that made players angry, you release Camilles skin in Treasure Hunt,
the trial skin at floor 11, the skin pieces at floor 12. This makes it effectively outright impossible even
for moderate spenders who regularly pay for your game (regular monthly cards holders) to get the
skin for a reasonable amount (which I have outlined in the Treasure Hunt Data sheet I have been
collecting for a year now). On top of those, it also further angers the whales even more because they
feel even more that they are only seen as cash sources and in no way as customers to please.

If you had put the Camille skin fragments on floor 6 of Treasure Hunt but made each floor only 10
fragments instead of 20, this would have actually made it more expensive to max out the skin day 1
for the big spenders who do that, but not made players angry about how it was introduced. Like I
already mentioned before for Unas skin, I once again can’t understand the decisions made here even
from the exclusive perspective of earning money. What you’re doing here is psychologically terrible, it
does not make people want to spend on the skin, it only makes them angry.
Suggested adjustments for skins
- The trial skin needs to be made more attractive, currently it only forces people to finish one
additional floor in Treasure Hunt or one more full rotation in the Gacha to unlock the
permanent skin, because it’s not worth any skin pieces up front.
Suggestion: Keep the trial skin, but also give 20 skin pieces with it right away. After this
adjustment trial skin will not give back 20 frags anymore when upgrading to permanent skin
from trial. Still, since the 20 pieces are available directly, it forces people to spend a bit less to
unlock permanent skin so it feels much better.
- You need to add either a 3rd pose or multiple actions to the poses (like the Dating Event
scenes with multiple actions). The final pose should have actual sex content, not only teasing
(like 5 and 8 star evolutions do at the moment).
- Even with those adjustments, the overall cost needs to come down a bit. Even for 3 poses it’s
way too expensive at the current prices. It makes absolutely no sense that a skin is more
expensive than getting a step-up character to 5 stars, and similarly to more expensive than
max awakening a character. The cost should come down to roughly 35000 gems at maximum
if players max the skin on the last day of the event. Having higher cost on the first day is fine,
if people can’t wait for a bit it’s fine to make them pay extra. For this there is a few options:
- For Unas skin events there is the following possibilites:
- Increase the daily gacha coin rewards a good amount. They should at
minimum be 1500 daily for a full 10 roll every day, with the current gacha
rates even this is fairly low. Also if possible make the hard portal available
right away, being forced to do the normal portal once means we can’t use all
our coins.
- Improve the rates in the gacha
- Decrease the prices in the shop or make more of the discounted gacha coins
available (least preferred option, the 2 listed before would mean you can
keep the price more expensive for players who max on the first day but make
it cheaper on the last day)
- Alternatively run the event very often so that it’s feasible to unlock the skin
over time (this might be the case in the future but we have no idea as we
haven’t been told anything).
- The nutaku gold packs give a laughable amount of gems. Adjust them to be
like the treasure hunt packs (so bring the 4900 nutaku gold back from 800
gems to 1800 gems)
- For Camilles skin:
- Make the skin pieces available on earlier floors
- Additionally, please fix the before mentioned audio issues of Unas final skin pose. It feels
really bad getting this after dropping a lot of money.

Positives about skins

To shortly stop the negativity, there is of course some good stuff about the skins too:
- The art is very nice as is usual for Project QT
- The longer voicelines add some personality
- Being interactable on tapping is nice
So in short the execution in the art department is very solid.
Despite all the negativity here, I want to stress that people WANT skins. They are great extra content
for your favourite girls. People are also willing to pay for them but are really unhappy with the current
implementation.
Other problems
I shortly want to touch on other issues that are mostly linked to how skins were released, but are more
general problems that show up regularly.
- Removal of the lucky wheel, no communication about it:
Right after the whole playerbase was angered about how skins were released, lucky wheel
gets removed. We’re not given a reason at all, no ingame news, no communication on
discord, absolutely nothing. We’ve always had an active lucky wheel for well over a year now,
probably 2 years. So the sudden removal really surprised and confused people.
It’s removing one small source of fragment income for everyone, it hits people who don’t
spend a lot of money especially hard. It coming right after everyone was angry about skins
made everyone even more angry. The timing could not have been worse. It additionally
highlights another constant problem: No news given about upcoming changes, no reason
given, just zero communication to the playerbase.
It’s another change that makes people feel like they are only here to have money extracted
from them, not as customers to please. At least give some news about it before removing a
feature that has always been here.
- Broken event state on release:
So many events are just broken on release. Unas dating event was broken when the new
format got introduced. The first carnival re-adjustment with the 150 summon mission was a
downgrade from the previous state. New story stages were impossible to finish when
chapters 19-22 were released. And there is more and more, these are just 3 of the more
recent examples.
This time it was the 7 million coin cost to upgrade a skin to level 10 on top of the already high
gem or nutaku gold pricing. As mentioned, 7 million coins is outright prohibitive even for
players who play hundreds of dollars monthly for your game. How does this keep happening?
Why do you make your players unhappy with almost every first release of a new feature and
have to fix it later?
There is some nice changes too but they just get overshadowed nonstop by decisions like
these.
- Over-Saturation of Treasure Hunt:
When treasure hunt was re-introduced, the feedback was overall very positive. It was finally
another possible source for awakening stones for everyone. In the past months, more and
more stuff has been added to Treasure Hunt, it’s incredibly over-saturated now and it’s again
impossible to get even a fraction of the content for players who spend sub 100 dollars
monthly on the game. There’s Esther, Camille stones, the old subspace units and now the
Camille skin on top. It’s just too much.
A few suggestions
- The old subspace units should be available from first floor, not floor 4. Even then
there is the opportunity cost of not getting basic summon tickets, which makes
carnival progress slower.
- Camille skin fragments need to be available from floor 6 at worst, I’d actually suggest
making them available at floor 4. Maybe make it 10 pieces at once only then if you
feel it is too easy to obtain, but I feel 20 pieces at once would still be fair then. They
still compete with other actually more useful resources in awakening stones and basic
summon tickets anyways. Alternatively make 10 pieces per floor starting floor 4 and
20 pieces per floor starting floor 10 or 11
- QA / QC issues:
The final pose of the skin has some sound issues as mentioned. There are plenty of other
unsatisfactory QA problems present at various places in the game, the most egregious being
the still resetting sound settings. Those not being fixed enforces the feeling of many people
that player happiness doesn’t matter, but only getting their money as fast as possible.
- Over-saturation of events, no adjusted resource income:
More and more events were added over time that require gems. We now have Carnival,
Treasure Hunt, Regular H Events that all require gems. Now there are skin events on top and
our gem or coin income has not changed at all. If you add new content that requires
resources you should also add some new ways to obtain resources.
- Monster Girl Items everywhere:
The Monster Girl Room is an abandoned feature since a long time. Every Veteran has maxed
out the Monster Girls and the seduce items and blue tickets are useless. Yet we get so many
of these items thrown at us at every corner. In Gacha, in explores… And also in paid
packages on lots of occasions, where it feels especially insulting. When packages have their
usual text of “GREAT VALUE, 80% OFF” and then there is blue tickets or seduce items in
there, it really feels like we are getting taunted. Those items are worthless, stop selling them
to us and stop diluting reward pools with them.
