1. COURSE DESCRIPTION
1.1. Course Objectives

Application of knowledge and research skills acquired during studies to the writing of a
scientific paper on a specific topic related to one of the courses of the programme.

1.2. Prerequisite

There are no prerequisites for this course.

1.3. Learning outcomes at the Study Programme level

1. Objectively evaluate scholarly literature in the field of theology.


2. Collect, select, and analyze philosophical-theological and historical-theological resources.
3. Develop the skills necessary for interdisciplinary research and for finding research-based
answers to the common questions of theology and other scholarly disciplines.
4. Communicate the acquired theoretical and practical knowledge and encourage engagement
in congregations and the society at large.
5. Integrate the existing knowledge with new insights and produce new ideas.
6. Expertly present the role and specific contribution of theology to a wider academic
community.

Other competences related to a specific course are acquired dependent on the topic of the
thesis.

1.4. Learning Outcomes

By writing a scholarly paper, the student will demonstrate his/her ability to perform
independent research while adhering to the standards of academic writing, using relevant
scholarly literature, and applying research methodology. The student also demonstrates the
ability to present the acquired knowledge on a specific topic related to one of the courses of
the programme in written form.
1.5. The manner and course of writing:

At the beginning of the 4th semester of the graduate programme, the student chooses a mentor
and, in consultation with the mentor, selects a topic for the master's thesis. The mentor for the
thesis needs to be a lecturer on the programme, and hold minimally a PhD degree level. The
master's thesis needs to be minimally 70 standard pages long.

The thesis is graded by the mentor in a written statement.
