8034 - Unit 13 Website Development - Assignment 2
Website Design
Today’s Date
15/03/2022
1. Introduction
Here are the main thing that I am going to talk about about in this document
is the intended purpose of my website, user requirement, styles,
storyboard, alternative designs, justification, asset registry, sitemap, folder
structure, hardware and software used, constraints, test plan, timeline,
interactive features used and finally the conclusion to end of my document
to tell the reader about what I have learnt while being on my level 2 IT
course.
2. Intended Purpose
Describe your audience - age group, gender, interests etc. also add what styles and features
may appeal to them.
The age group could be 20 and above because obviously the employer will
be older than me and also wiser than me, the gender would be male or
female, the interests would maybe be to do with networking and also the
working of computers.
Finally I think that the style that the worker at exa networks would use is a
style that has diagrams that have pictures of computers and also pictures
taken apart from the computer.
3. User Requirements.
This is from the project brief. Also add what the user will need to access your
website.
The user will need a device that can be connected to the internet such as laptop,
PC, chromebook, tablet, smartphone and Ipad. Then they will need the website
URL so that they can visit my website in their own time and also as frequently as
they want to as well, when a user goes on to my website they will have full
access to most thing on it and will be able to see all of my work and process such
as the units that I have been studying at college while being on my course.
4. Styles.
The pictures that I have chosen goes perfectly with the colour scheme
because i have a purple colour scheme on my website so that is the reason
why I have chose the colour and also the picture for my mood board
5. Storyboards.
The colour that I chose for the text is just normal, stantad black because it
will be easier for the reader to read the information and not be struggling to
make out what the text even says. Some of the reader might have a difficulty
reading text in a certain colour or font so that is the reason why I have kept
the text and font simple not colour full like flashing lights.
6. Alternative Designs
Show at least two alternative designs you considered and say why you rejected them.
I could put the toolbar at the top instead of the top and I could also add some
more pictures so that the viewer will understand what I am saying.
7. Justification.
Justify your design choice - refer to user requirements to do so. Say why each page is fit for
purpose and why you have not used the alternative designs.
The reason why I chose the layout and the design of my website is so that the
reader can see and concentrate on the information that tells them that they need
to read that piece of information so they have a better understanding of the unit
that I am explaining.
The use of pictures that I have used and chosen is a good mixer because, if the
viewer/reader has a better understanding when it comes to the physical picture of
what I am talking about. When the view sees a picture they can see and
understand what I am talking about in the paragraph of information.
The reason why I didn't pick any of my alternative designs is because the other
design that I made didn't look the best and was simple for the user to navigate
and find what they need to find while using my website. Each of the alternative
designs were different because the tool bars were in different places.
8. Asset Registry.
9. Sitemap.
The reason why I have chosen this layout is because it easy for the user to
access such as if they need to find any of the 5 units that are on my website they
will just need to click on heading that says “ Units” and all the unit will pop up with
the number and they will have to simply have to click on to the one they want to
read about or even learn about.
The hardware that I have used is the computers at college in the library and also
in the classrooms and I have also used my own PC at home in my bedroom,
which I use outside of college hours when I need to catch or do some work in
general.
The software that I have used is google docs to document all of the ideas and
information that I have thought of and also researched to help me do my work.
I used a website that allows you to create your own websites for free called
Weebly is an easy-to-use site builder with a free option. It lets you create and
publish attractive, responsive-design sites, and online stores
Lastly the other piece of main software that I have used is google chrome which
is the browser that I prefer to use over any other browser because it is seen to be
much faster and also much more reliable than others.
12. Constraints.
The only constraint that I encountered that caused me significant delays was the
slightly slow internet connection at home. While I was using my PC, the internet
was buffering and lagging so when I clicked onto a link or entered a URL it took a
little more time compared to when I used the computers at college.
The time that it took me to make my website was one month and I keep on
making lots of different changes and improvements to my website because I am
doing more work while at college that include assignments, group work.
I have been using a free website creating tool called weebly which allows me to
make a full working website that has its own URL, which means that anyone can
view my website that has an internet connection and has a device that can
access a browser such as google, safari and microsoft edge.
But there is also a version of the free website tool called weebly which you can
subscribe to a monthly subscription which widens the possibility and abilities for
example on the version that you have to pay monthly for you can use paypal as a
payment method which is really good because a customer has to just login with
their paypal and then pick the card they want, then boom the translation is gone
through.
Fill in how long each phase will take you to complete - remember to say if you are using
hours, days or weeks.
Phase Duration
Design 6 weeks
Test 2 weeks
Release 2 weeks
Which interactive features have you used? Include details of which page they are
used on.
There is a map of where my college and the user can click on it to make the
picture bigger so that they can see the location of my college in more detail and
so that they have a better understanding of what city it is in. This interactive
feature is on the contact page.
There are also lots of buttons on my website that take me to different websites
such as if the user wanted to call my college to find out more information about
the course that I am on they can ring up and ask more about my level 2 course.
16. Conclusion.
I have learnt that talking to people to get more ideas and feedback on my work is
very helpful, because I know where I need to improve my work and charge it so it
is better. I have also learnt that testing my website is good because I can see
what other people will see, when the website is uploaded to the online internet
world.
