Back blows and Heimlich Maneuver for Adult Checklist

● Perform this checklist by using manikin and do not perform directly to another
participants
● Or can be replaced by using a pillow tie on the back and in front of the chest.

Check the victim if s/he

1. ● Able to breathe
● Encourage the victim to cough
● Remove foreign body obstruction from
the mouth

If the victim cannot speak or cough

Perform back blows

2. Support the victim's upper body with one hand


and help the victim lean forward.

3. Give up 5 sharp blows between the victim


shoulder blades with the heel of your hand.

4. Check the victim’s mouth if the obstruction is


clear.

If back blows fail, perform abdominal thrust

5. ● Stand behind the victim


● Put both arm around upper part of
victim abdomen
● Check and make sure s/he is bending
well forward.

● Pull sharply inward and upward to 5
