ANNOUNCEMENT
SAP SuccessFactors customers need time tracking capabilities. As a result, we are significantly stepping up our
investments in time and attendance management. Our intent is to accommodate all common time tracking
processes in a new solution option: SAP SuccessFactors Time Tracking.
Our plan is to include all current capabilities covered under Employee Central Time Sheet into the new Time
Tracking product, and add new features such as clock terminal integration, overtime and premium calculations
for workforces on shifts, and advanced time allocation tightly integrated into other SAP products.
We will continue to invest heavily in Employee Central Time Off capabilities to support global absence
management as part of the Employee Central product.
Since our efforts will go into building out SAP SuccessFactors Time Tracking, the Employee Central Time Sheet
capabilities will remain available for existing Employee Central customers until December 2023 (or until the
customer renews), but with no planned updates.
What does this mean for the Solution Extensions with Workforce Software and Kronos?
We plan to continue our long-standing solution extension partnership with Workforce Software, helping our
customers facilitate product integration across SAP SuccessFactors and these Solution Extensions. This
partnership will remain in place. SAP has decided not to renew its solution extension agreement with Kronos. As
a result, we can still sell or renew Kronos to customers until March 31, 2022.
• For use cases which involve scheduling and complex (highly industry-specific) blue collar processes, we
will position our Solution Extension
• For all other cases, for example use cases focusing on white collar and low to medium complexity blue
collar processes, we intend to position SAP SuccessFactors Time Tracking
BACKGROUND
Strategy
Our strategy is to deliver advanced, innovative time and attendance capabilities that support SAP
SuccessFactors HXM, as well as the SAP Intelligent Enterprise.
Overall, this is aimed to help our on-premise SAP HCM customers to move to the cloud.
Our aim is to provide approximately 80% of the most commonly used features from ERP HCM Time
Management in SAP SuccessFactors Time Tracking within the next 3-5 years.
4
We will look to provide transparency to customers about where we are targeting our efforts. Customers who are
using old or minor features may have to build their own extensions or use partners.
We are focusing on capabilities that are fundamental in getting people paid and contribute to people’s work/life
balance and experience, for customers of all sizes and in all industries around the globe.
In delivering this strategy, our objectives are to ensure our customers will be successful – both today and
tomorrow – by ensuring they can trust us to handle their most complex needs. This means we need to provide
best-in-class products to run their business efficiently, intelligently, and in compliance with global regulations.
To do this, we will boost our investment in SAP SuccessFactors Time Tracking (formerly Employee Central Time
Sheet), currently used by over 4 million users across 1,700+ Employee Central customers.
Why is this strategy unique and better than others in the market?
• We are investing in this area to fuel new approaches and support new strategies, such as the Intelligent
Enterprise.
• Our heritage of 40 years in the ERP industry, a proven history meeting the needs of the most global and
diverse customer base on the planet, and modern technology solutions allow us to provide simplified, guided
processes for planning, sourcing, and paying the total workforce.
What types of investment is SAP making for SAP SuccessFactors Time Management?
• As part of The Intelligent Enterprise we are focusing on capabilities that enable smart time tracking, including
labor distribution for the total workforce to support finance, procurement, and HR. Additionally, analytics
(enabled by SAP Analytics Cloud) will help organizations to make better-informed decisions related to
workforce cost, leave liability, and productivity.
• Within SAP SuccessFactors we will be providing the next level of self-service via our Digital Assistant that
allows employees to interact with their timesheet based on guided and intuitive procedures.
• To keep up to date on the latest information on SAP SuccessFactors Time Tracking, see the relevant Partner
Edge page
These additional time tracking capabilities will put a significant additional load on our application and operations.
To cover these costs, we had 2 options: increase the price of EC or split out time tracking. We chose the latter
because our data tells us that ~50% of our customer base will use these advanced features. Therefore, we didn’t
want to increase the price for all customers.
This brings us up to par with our competition, like Workday and Oracle, who also charge separately for time
sheet features. Our pricing is also in-line with competition where the value of these features is considered 50%
of the value for payroll features.
We will continue to position WorkForce Software for more complex time management scenarios. See above for
our strategy regarding Kronos.
We will offer SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Core HR for organizations who need global absence
management capabilities.
5
We will offer SAP SuccessFactors Time Tracking for organizations who require advanced time
recording/tracking functionality to support hourly workforces and offers connectivity to shift planning tools and
clock terminals.
We will continue to offer the following Solution Extensions for organizations that need workforce scheduling
(and/or rostering), and advanced leave management, including more complex scenarios such as FMLA,
workers compensation, military wartime, etc.
PRODUCT QUESTIONS
Can Time Tracking consume data from other sources (not terminal devices)? For example, if a customer
has data that comes from multiple sources for different employee groups – clock-in/out devices and
from client systems such as Avaya/reports generated by client clock terminals.
Yes, the clock-in/clock-out API can be adopted by any clocking device as long as the clocking system's software
service can integrate or adopt our API.
What are the integration scenarios between SAP SuccessFactors Suite and SAP SuccessFactors Time
Tracking?
• Seamless integration into EC Time Off
• P2P Integration into ECP
• Connector based integration with on-premise Payroll
Can customers use SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Core HR in parallel with SAP
SuccessFactors Time Tracking?
Yes, Employee Central Core HR is a prerequisite for using the new SKU, as this will house all the employee data
What are the product prerequisites for SAP SuccessFactors Time Tracking?
Can customers use Employee Central ‘functional users’ with SAP SuccessFactors Time Tracking?
No. Employees require full users to access the Time Tracking time sheet to enter their time worked.
6
Will existing customers need to migrate their time sheet data to the new Time Tracking product?
No. Because Employee Central is a prerequisite, customers will retain their existing settings, including their role-
based permissions (RBP).
Why not include existing on-premise SAP HCM functionality such as RPTIME00 time evaluation into
Time Tracking?
We believe that a cloud product should be simple to use and informative for the employee. RPTIME00, while
powerful, does not provide real-time time evaluation; instead it runs on according to predefined scheduled jobs.
When employees enter their time, there is no immediate evaluation that shows them what the payout or result of
their entries would be.
Our focus is on enabling other SAP S4 components to do the shift scheduling. We are looking into making a
service available to communicate accurate employee availability to S4 applications, taking into account when
people work, or are absent (including public holiday information).
If customers use tools other than the S4 planning tool, then they can already use our new integration capabilities
to communicate shift planning outcomes into Employee Central Time for accrual calculations and as input for the
time sheet (and time evaluation)
In addition, we plan to have capabilities as part of SAP SuccessFactors Time Tracking which allow customers to
dynamically appoint a shift, based on a registered clock-in punch. This allows customers to correctly calculate
(shift) pay without having the burden of the shift scheduling/integration. We have this on our roadmap for 2022.
Finally, we have extensibility options for partners to build (lightweight) shift planning visuals / apps, such as
Success Solutions and Shyftplan.
Is there a way to set work schedules to be 'inactive' and hide them as of a certain date?
No, work schedule objects are not yet time dependent. It is on our roadmap.
Can the customer make a temporary work schedule a reportable object, i.e. using the same reporting
tool as for absences, for example?
Yes, this can be done via the Integration Center. See the following knowledge base article:
https://launchpad.support.sap.com/#/notes/2608027
Other than "complexity" of the time recording scenario, does it still make sense to implement EC Basic
Time Sheet (and Time Off) or would you recommend waiting for SF Time Tracking?
You can still implement EC Time Off and EC Basic Time Sheet, but there will be no future development for EC
Basic Time Sheet. Time Off will remain part of the EC license.
SAP SuccessFactors Time Tracking will be available for all languages and regions that are currently supported
by Employee Central.
Will this solution support ‘swapped’ working days? For example, in Hungary, when you have to work on
a weekend instead of a weekday?
We plan to invest more in localization in the future.
7
What types of tenants are provided?
Landscape is planned to be the same as Employee Central (since this is a prerequisite solution), with the
addition of HOP microservices for integrations into clock terminals.
