Part 3 Conversations
[32-34] ACD
M: Hello, I'm a guest here at the hotel. 32
I plan to do some sightseeing today, and I
have a question.
W: Certainly. What can I help you with?
M: I'm interested in visiting a couple of historic neighborhoods. 33
What would be a good
way to travel around to see them?
W: Well, you could rent a bicycle. There's a shop just down the street where you can get
one.
M: Oh, that's perfect if it's not too expensive.
W: 341 don't know what they charge, but I'd be happy to call them and find out.
[35-37] CAC
W: 35The review of our restaurant is supposed to be in today's newspaper. Have you
seen it yet?
M: 35I read it before I came in to work. It's the first review in the Entertainment section!
W: Really? I hope it had a lot of good things to say about us.
M: It did. In fact, 36I think we’ll have a lot of new customers this week, thanks to the
positive review. Especially since the reviewers really liked our specialty desserts!
W: Well, then we'd better prepare more food. I'll order more ingredients right
37
away.
[38-40] BBD
M: 38Welcome to Pavilion Appliance Store. How can I help you?
W: Well, 39the handle on the door of my refrigerator broke off.
M: Oh, that's not good. If you bought it more than a year ago, it's not going to be covered by
the warranty.
W: I know—I bought it three years ago. But I can fix it myself... I just need to buy the
handle.
M: I'm sorry, but we don't sell replacement parts.
W: So, do you know of a store that does sell them?
M: Well, 40there is a Web site that sells appliance parts at good prices. You could see if

they have what you're looking for. It's called AppIiancePartsForYoy.com.
[41-43] DBA
M: Hi, 41I'm calling about your online leadership course. According to your Web Site,
It's one of three courses required for your Professional Certificate in Management.
I'm not interested in the certificate, so can I just take the leadership course?
W: Yes, but it's probably worth it to get the certificate. Have you seen our online
reviews? Most people who complete the certificate program are very satisfied.
M: Yes,421 have a friend who got the management certificate through your program.
It's really helped her in her career.
W: Well, 43if you're worried about the cost, you might qualify for a reduced course
fee. Would you like me to look into that for you?
[44-46] BDA
W: Hi, Carlos. 44,45Did you see the e-mail from the manager? Our fitness center's
going to stay open 24 hours!
M: Yes, I read it. 45The e-mail said the new hours will start next month. I think it'll
make our members very happy. They've wanted later hours for a while.
W: Definitely. The manager also asked us to make some signs and post them around
the gym so members are aware of this change.
M: 461 have some time now. I’ll get started making those signs right away.
[47-49]ACA
M: Isabel, 47I noticed that we're scheduled to give our seminar in the company
cafeteria. Isn't the third-floor conference room available?
W: 47That conference room isn't large enough. Almost 50 people have signed up so far,
and we're expecting even more.
M: That's good news, but 48I listened to a guest speaker in the cafeteria a few weeks ago
and I couldn't hear what she was saying. Even with the microphone, the sound just
didn't travel well in that room.
W: Now that you mention it, I've had that experience as well. 49Let me ask the tech
department director if he has any suggestions for improving the sound.

W: David, 50the automated shipping system just sent me an alert that you requested
100 laptop chargers from the shipping floor here at the warehouse. What's going on?
Is there a problem?
M: The store in West Springfield just called. 51Each box is supposed to contain a laptop
and a charger. Unfortunately, some of the boxes we shipped from this warehouse are
missing the chargers. We need to ship new ones out as soon as possible.
W: OK. Thanks for taking care of that so quickly. 52Could you pull up the packaging
reports for that shipment? I want to take a look at them, so we don't make that
mistake again.
[53-55]BCD
W: Ming, 53can you still drive me to the Hair and Beauty Expo this weekend? I can't
wait to see all the new products.
M: Well, as it turns out, I have a big job this weekend.
W: That's OK. I can take the bus. But it's a shame you have to work.
M: Actually, I'm kind of excited. 54It's a really important wedding and I'm styling the
bride's hair. I'm hoping people will like my work, and that it'll lead to some new clients.
W: You know, I've styled hair for a lot of brides and have some photographs of the
results. Would you like to see them? I have them right here on my phone.
M: 55That would be great!
[56-58]DAC
M: Good afternoon, 56I reserved a seat online on the two o'clock train to Manchester.
56,57
I’m trying to print my ticket at this machine, but it's not working and my train's
departing soon.
W1: All right, 57it looks like the machine's out of paper. 58This is Nadia, my
associate. If you'll follow her, she will print the ticket for you at the counter.
W2: 58Hi—sorry for the inconvenience. I just need to see the credit card you used
to pay for your ticket.
M: Sure, here you are.

W: Liam, 59the representatives from Pronote International will be here at two.
M: Right. 59They’re looking for a caterer, and I'm sure once they sample our food
they'll want to hire us. 60Theresa put together a great menu. And... I think we're
ready to start preparing the food for the tasting.
W: Theresa isn't here!
M: Oh, she called to say she'd be a little late. It’s fine. We have plenty of time. 61I could even
start working on the vegetable coconut curry dish we're planning.
W: 61I thought that was a beef dish.
M: 61 It usually is, but the rep from Pronote made a special request for the
demonstration. It'll still be a showcase dish.
