A Microproject Report On: Institute of Civil and Rural Engineering

The document discusses excessive use of energy resources and its impacts. It defines energy resources and classifies them into renewable and non-renewable categories. Renewable resources include solar, wind and water, while non-renewable resources are fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gas. Excessive use of resources leads to their depletion, pollution and negative economic effects. Programs are needed to promote sustainable use of limited resources and transition to cleaner renewable alternatives.

INTRODUCTION

In our daily life we use a ton of things for producing fuel

for our personal purposes which can be either recyclable of
non- recyclable but at the end we all know that one day this
things will be expire.
Our natural resources are limited so we have to use it
moderately but for make some money we don’t care about it.
Resource refers to all the materials available in our
environment which help us to satisfy our needs and wants.
Resources can broadly be classified upon their availability —
they are classified into renewable and non-renewable
resources.
They can also be classified as actual and potential on the
basis of the level of development and use, on the basis of
origin they can be classified as biotic and abiotic, and on the
basis of their distribution, as ubiquitous and localised (private,
community-owned, national and international resources). An
item becomes a resource with time and developing technology
ENERGY RESOURCES :-
Nature’s products that are used as fuel something such as
oil, coal, or the sun, which can be used to provide power for
light, heat, machines is called energy resources.
Example – Forest,Mineral,Land
An energy resource is something that can produce heat,
power life, move objects, or produce electricity. Matter that
stores energy is called a fuel. Human energy consumption has
grown steadily . ... Most of the energy we use today come
from fossil fuels (stored solar energy). They can be divided by
type into fossil fuel, nuclear fuel and renewable resources.
TYPES OF ENERGY RESOURCES

1. BASED ON LONG TERM AVAILABLITY

a. Renewable energy resources

b. Non Renewable energy resources

a.RENEWABLE ENERGY RESOURCES:-

Renewable energy resources are an energy source that

cannot be depleted and are able to supply a continuous source
of clean energy. This kind of energy resources are easily
available in nature so se can easily use it.
Example : Solar, Wind, water etc
Renewable energy is energy from sources that are
naturally replenishing but flow-limited; renewable resources
are virtually inexhaustible in duration but limited in the
amount of energy that is available per unit of time. The major
types of renewable energy sources are: Biomass. Wood and
wood waste.
b. NON- RENEWABLE ENERGY RESOURCES

A non-renewable resource (also called a finite resource) is

a natural resource that cannot be readily replaced by natural
means at a pace quick enough to keep up with consumptiowel.
An example is carbon-based fossil fuels. The original organic
matter, with the aid of heat and pressure, becomes a fuel such
as oil or gas.
Example :- Oil, Coal, Nuclear, Natural gas
Earth minerals and metal ores, fossil fuels (coal, petroleum,
natural gas) and groundwater in certain aquifers are all
considered non-renewable resources, though individual
elements are always conserved (except in nuclear reactions,
nuclear decay or atmospheric escape.
Nonrenewable energy resources include coal, natural gas,
oil, and nuclear energy. Once these resources are used up,
they cannot be replaced, which is a major problem for
humanity as we are currently dependent on them to supply
most of our energy needs. nonrenewable resources are limited
in supply and cannot be used sustainably.

A coal mining in Wyoming United States. Coal, produced

over millions of years, is a finite and non-renewable resource
on a human time scale.
2.BASED ON TRADITIONAL USE
a. CONVENTIONAL ENERGY RESOURCES

b. NON-CONVENTIONAL ENERGY RESOURCES

1) CONVENTIONAL ENERGY RESOURCES

Conventional energy sources such as natural gas, oil, coal, or

nuclear are finite but still hold the majority of the energy market.
However, renewable energy sources like wind, fuel cells, solar,
biogas/biomass, tidal, geothermal, etc. Are clean and abundantly
available in nature and hence are competing with conventional energy
sources.
2) NON-CONVENTIONAL ENERGY RESOURCES

Energy generated by using wind, solar, small hydro,

tides, geothermal heat and biomass is known a non-
conventional energy. All these sources are renewable
process of energy generation and do not cause
environmental pollution. Our country has been endowed
with adequate natural resources.
ADVANTAGES
1. Make human life easier

2. Reliable sources

3. Enhance living conditions.

4. Induces technology development

 Advantages of Renewable Energy

a. Generating energy that produces no greenhouse gas

emissions from fossil fuels and reduces some types of air
pollution.

b. Diversifying energy supply and reducing dependence on

imported fuels.

c. Creating economic development and jobs in

manufacturing, installation, and more..

 Advantages of Non-Renewable Energy

a. The main advantages of non-renewable energies is that
they are abundant and affordable. For example, oil and
diesel are still good choices for powering vehicles.
b. Non-renewable energy is cost effective and easier to
product and use.

DISADVANTAGES
a. There is impact on environment.
b. Can potentially pollute the air, soil, and water bodies.
c. The burning of coal emits CO2, SO2, toxic heavy metals,
cadmium, arsenic, and mercury.
d. “Clean Coal” involves costs.
e. Coal source is finite.
f. Byproducts of coal mining include arsenic, SO2, selenium,
and mercury.

Disadvantages of Renewable Energy

a. The Electricity Generation Capacity is Still Not Large

Enough.
b. Renewable Energy Can be Unreliable.
c. Low-efficiency Levels.
d. Requires a Huge Upfront Capital Outlay.

Disadvantages of non-renewable energy

a. It produces greenhouse gases.

b. Its by products cause damage to the environment.
c. Once exhausted they are not easily replenished.
d. Rising cost.

PROGRAMS DUE TO OVERUSE OF

ENERGY RESOURCESS

Some of the major problems which arise due to over

exploitation of energy resources

A) Extinction of resource:

It has been predicted that many of the non renewable

sources like crude oil, will completely deplete in the 35 to 40
years as they are limited and get centuries to replenish
B) Pollution:

Overuse of energy sources results in emission of Co₂,

S0₂, No, particulate matter which causes air pollution, and
related problems like, acid rains, global warming.
C) Economic effects:

As these resources will be depleted, cost will increase,

which will seriously effect economy and the development
of the nation.
