Use
We use the Present Continuous to talk about actions happening now:

The phone's ringing!

Mark is speaking to his mom on the phone.


We are listening to the teacher.

They aren't watching a movie.


Have + things / family members is not an action. Do not use the Present Continuous for
this meaning:
 I am having two brothers.

o I have two brothers.

 I am having a new car.

o I have a new car.

Double the consonant and add ing if the verb ends with one stressed vowel and a
consonant:

 run → running

 stop → stopping

 swim → swimming

If the vowel is not stressed, or there is more than one vowel, do not double the
consonant:

 open → opening
