6. Motivation
Now, we will have an activity. The class
will be divided into 2 groups. Group 1 and 3
will be the first group then Group 2 and 4
will be the second group. Each group will
receive an envelope consisiting of sets of
jumbled letters with corresponding pictures.
All you have to is to rearranged the jumbled
letters with the help of the pictures so you
have a clue if what word you can have out of
the jumbled letters. Do you understand
class? Yes Ma’am!
Before we start, what are the guidelines in
performing a group activity?
Group 1? Do the activity quietly.

B. Exploration(Activity)
Before I tell you what are the connections of
those pictures and words to our next lesson, I
will play a video to start our next lesson then
after that I will ask you questions regarding of
what you have watched. Understood? Yes Ma’am!
Before we start, what must we do when we
are watching? Seat properly.
What else? Watch quietly.
Another? Don’t make any distractions.
And what is the most important thing we Give full attention on what you are watching.
must do?
Very good! I hope that you can do what you
have said. Can we start? Yes we can.

Did you observed completely? Yes we did.

What was the video all about? It was all about the sun.
Correct! So now, I will group you into 4
groups. Group 1 will be the first group, group 2
will be the second and so on. I will give an
envelope to each group that contains questions
that you have to answer by group. Brain stroming
is the key to answer the questions acceptably.
Your answers will be written on the manila paper Yes Ma’am!
I will provide to you. Do you understand?
Let us start! I will give you 5 to 7 minutes to
answer the given questions.
Questions:
Group 1: Accoring to the video, kindly difine
what is sun? (Anything that you have watched on
the video)
Group 2: What are the layers of the sun and
explain briefly each part?
Group 3: What will happen to the solar
system if the sun does not exist? Explain further.
Group 4: According to what you have
watched, what are the amount of atom the sun
have?

Are all the groups done answering? Yes we are.

Kindly post it on the board then choose one
among your groupmates to discuss your answers.

C. Explanation
1. Group Reporting
Let us start in group 1. Sun was formed about 4.5 billion years ago in the
Milky Way Galaxy’s orion spur. It was formed
when solar nebula collapsed.
Thank you group 1. Next, group 2. The layers of the sun is the corona the outermost
layer, the chromosphere is the outer colored layer,
the photosphere is the surface of the sun that emits
light, and the core is the center part of the sun.
Thank you group 2, how about group 3? All the celestial bodies will drift off to space.
Everything in the universe will be placed
unorganized.
Thank you group 3. Lastly, group 4. The sun have 91% of hydrogen, 8.9% of Helium
and .1% of heavier elements such as Carbon and
Nitrogen.
Thank you group 4.
All your answers were correct! Give
your selves around of applause.

2. Discussion(Lesson Proper)
I just want to add some informations
about the sun for you to surely absorb our lesson.
Group 1, what is the first word you came up
with? The Sun

Similar on what the group 1 said, the sun

was formed 4.5 billion years ago from a swirling
cloud of dust and gas. The sun is a huge ball of
gas that poduces energy by fusing hydrogen
atoms to form helium in its core.
Again, how many years does the sun was 4.5 billion years.
formed?
Correct! What is the huge ball of gas that Sun is a huge ball of gas that produces energy.
produces energy?
Very good! The sun is a star that does not
have any solid parts. It is made up mostly of
hydrogen gas and helium gas.
What does the sun made up of? The sun is made up of hydrogen gas and nitrogen
gas.
Right! The light from the sun reaches the
Earth in about eight minutes. The sun is huge
compared to earth. A million Earths could fit
inside the sun. The sun looks small because it is
far away. The average distance of the earth to the
sun is 93 million miles.
Again, what is the average distance of the 93 million miles is the average distance of earth to
earth to the sun? the sun.
Correct! Now, what is the second word you
came up with group 2? Layers
Okay, now let us move on to the layers or
parts of the sun. Group 2, what are the layers of
the sun again? Corona, chromosphere, photosphere, and core

Very good! Let’s discuss first the center of

the sun which is the core. The core is extremely
hot. The heat sends tiny bits of matter, called
atoms, crashing to each other.
What is the part of the sun that is extremely
hot? Core
Correct! The crashing atoms set off nuclear
reactions where all the energy comes from. It
takes 170, 000 years for the energy from the core
to reach the surface of the sun.
How many years again? 170, 000 years.
Okay, next part is the photosphere. It is the
surface of the sun that emits light. Light is the
only visible radiation from the sun. photosphere
is made up of hydrogen and helium gas.
What is the surface of the sun that emits
light? Photosphere
What does the photosphere made of? Hydrogen and helium gas
Correct! The temperature of photosphere is
5, 5100C. Some part of the photosphere have
sunspots.
Sunspots are places in the sun’s photosphere
that contain magnetic field. It appers dark
because they are much cooler that their bright
surroundings. A sunspotr is about 10 times
brighter than the moon in its full moon phase.
What are the places again in photosphere
that contain magnetic field? Sunspots.
Right1 the last part is the chromosphere.
What is a chromosphere group 2? Chromosphere is the outer and colored layer of the
sun’s atmosphere.
Very good! It is a rose pink layer extending
to 6,000 km above the photosphere. The color of
this layer is due to the presence of hydrogen
gas.this is the layer of lighter and cooler gases.
There are 3 features of the sun’s
chromosphere: the solar prominences, sun’s
corona and solar flares.
First is the solar prominences, are the rising
arcs of glowing gases.

Again, what is the rising arcs of glowing Solar prominences

gases?
Correct! These are the trapped gases at the
edge of the sun appear to be shooting outward
from the sun’s chromosphere.
Next is the sun’s corona. What is the corona
again? Corona is the outermost layer of the sun.
Yes! It is the outermost layer of the sun’s
atmosphere. It is so faded that we can only see it
when there is a solar eclipse.
When do we see the sun’s corona? When there is a solar eclipse.
Very Good! The temperature of the sun’s
corona goes up to 2 million0C. the gases that
blow off from the corona are called the solar
winds.
Lastly is the solar flares. These are sudden
gigantic eruptions of high energy hydrogen gas
from the surface of the sun. it releases energy in
the corona that sends particles and radiation out
into the solar system.
What are the sudden gigantic eruptions of
high energy hydrogen gas?
Correct! Do you have any questions? Solar flares.
None!
D. Generalization
Let us have a quick recap of our lesson.
What is sun? Sun is a star and the center of the solar system.
What are the layers or parts of the sun? The parts of the sun are the core, photosphere,
chromosphere and the corona.
What are the three features of the sun’s The 3 feature of the chromosphere are the solar
chromosphere? prominences, sun’s corona and the solar flares.
Very good!
Values Integration:
Now that we have discussed the sun, what
can you say about the importance of the sun in
the solar system? The sun helps the solar system placed orderly.
Very good! How about to our life? Does the Yes, sun gives off light that gives heat for us to
sun helps us? live.
Correct! what else? The heat from the sun helps us to dry clothes, food
and to produce salt.
Very good! How about on other living things It helps plants to live and to make their own food.
such as plants?
Yes, correct. Sun really plays an important
role in our daily lives.
