Ajant Public School Assignment of Linear Equation in 2 Variables

The document is an assignment on linear equations in two variables containing the following problems: 1. Write the equation of a line passing through a given point represented by a pair of linear equations. 2. There are two case studies about auto rickshaw and taxi fare structures in two cities. Questions involve writing the pair of linear equations representing each situation and calculating fares for given distances. 3. Solve two given systems of linear equations and determine the value of k for which another system has a unique or inconsistent solution. 4. Find a two digit number given clues about the number and its reverse.

ASSIGNMENT OF LINEAR EQUATION IN 2 VARIABLES

NOTE: All questions are compulsory.

1. Write an equation of a line passing through the point representing

solution of pair of linear equations x + y = 2 & 2x – y = 1. How
many such lines can you find?
2. CASE STUDY PROBLEM:
It is common that Governments revise travel fares from time to time based
on various factors such as inflation ( a general increase in prices and fall in
the purchasing value of money) on different types of vehicles like auto,
Rickshaws, taxis, Radio cab etc. The auto charges in a city comprise of a
fixed charge together with the charge for the distance covered. Study the
following situations:

Name of the city Distance travelled (Km) Amount paid (Rs.)

City A 10 75
15 110
City B 8 91
14 145
Situation 1: In city A, for a journey of 10 km, the charge paid is Rs 75 and
for a journey of 15 km, the charge paid is Rs 110.
Situation 2: In a city B, for a journey of 8km, the charge paid is Rs91 and
for a journey of 14km, the charge paid is Rs 145.
Refer situation 1
1. If the fixed charges of auto rickshaw be Rs x and the running
charges be Rs y km/hr, the pair of linear equations representing the
situation is
a) x + 10y =110, x + 15y = 75

b) x + 10y = 75, x + 15y = 110

c) 10x + y = 110, 15x + y = 75

d) 10x + y = 75, 15x + y = 110

2. A person travels a distance of 50km. The amount he has to pay is

a) Rs.155

b) Rs.255

c) Rs.355

d) Rs.455

Refer situation 2
3. If the fixed charges of Taxi be Rs x for first km and for
subsequent distance be Rs y km/hr, the pair of linear equations
representing the situation is
a) X + 8y = 91, x + 14 y = 145
b) X + 8y = 145, x + 14 y = 91
c) X+ 7y = 145, x + 13y = 91
d) X+ 7y = 91, x + 13y = 145

4. What will a person have to pay for travelling a distance of 30km?

a) Rs.185

b) Rs.298

c) Rs.275

d) Rs.305

5. The graph of lines representing the conditions are: (situation 2)

Solve the following system of linear equation:

23x – 29y =98

29x – 23 y = 110

For what value of k, will system of equations

X + 2y = 5

3x + ky – 15 = 0

Has unique solution inconsistent

Seven times a two digit number is equal to four times the number
obtained by reversing the digits. If the difference of digits is 3. Find the
number.
