LARYNGEAL MASSAGE

SELF-ADMINISTERED MASSAGE

RELEASE TENSION FROM YOUR

THROAT WITH SIMPLE STROKES

VOCAL FREEDOM SYSTEM

Welcome!

Do you want to decrease unwanted muscle tension from your

vocal instrument?

Maybe you feel throat tightness when speaking or singing,

maybe you experience vocal fatigue, maybe you sound breathy
or hoarse after using your voice or during a demanding vocal
task.

This light version of laryngeal massage will help you remove

some tension from your throat and make your voice feel good
again.

IMPORTANT!

Laryngeal massage is not for everyone! Some people may not be

able to tolerate the deep touch on the neck area. Do only what
is comfortable for you! Be gentle.

STOP WHEN IT DOES NOT FEEL RIGHT!

"This is a great massage technique. I tried it and it helped

relax the laryngeal and surrounding areas and made my

voice sound more clear/open/relaxed. Thank you so much

and I love your clear, scientific approach!"

WHAT IS LARYNGEAL MASSAGE?

It is a manual technique using hands to massage your larynx and

its muscles by touching them and applying gentle pressure.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Laryngeal massage is for people who experience muscle tension

in the area of their larynx or vocal tension during or after using
their voice. It is also for people who use their voice for work or
hobby and who have signs of vocal fatigue.

WHEN?

It's very individual. You can do laryngeal massage regularly

(every day for a few minutes as your warm up, cool down or at
the end of the day to reset your voice).

You can do it occasionally after a demanding vocal task,

presentation or performance.

The length of the massage will depend on how much you can
tolerate it. Massage for a few minutes, or even 20 minutes.
Whatever feels good to you.

"Wow! Thank you so much for making this video! I’m currently

in a production of Mary Poppins as the evil nanny Miss Andrew

and her song 'Brimstone and Treacle' has been quite draining

on my vocal chords and this massage really helped with my

tension and vocal tiredness!"

HOW?

STEP 1

Align your body well.

Locate the hyoid bone underneath your chin with your pointer.
When you slide your finger from the chin downward, it is the first
bump you feel. Place your thumb and pointer on the sides of the
hyoid bone. Gently move the hyoid bone from side to side.
STEP 2

Keep your fingers on the sides of the hyoid bone that we located
in the previous step. Massage it with circular motions and light
pressure.

STEP 3

Locate the thyroid cartilage. When you slide your finger from the
chin downward, it is the second big bump. It is below the hyoid
bone. Then, put your thumb and your pointer on either side of
the thyroid cartilage. You will feel flat surfaces on both sides of
the cartilage. Apply light pressure and massage it with a
downward movement.
STEP 4

Gently and slowly, move the thyroid cartilage from side to side.
You may hear "clicking". That is normal because the cartilages
are rubbing against each other. However, it should not hurt!

STEP 5

With your thumb and your pointer, do small circular motions on

the sides of the thyroid cartilage. You can do this step silently or
you can hum gently while you massage your larynx.

IMPORTANT!

DO NOT ADMINISTER ON OTHER PEOPLE!

STOP WHEN UNCOMFORTABLE!

APPLY ONLY A SLIGHT PRESSURE!
