Photoshop Tutorial Stage 1 start with a main picture. Best if the subject is photographed against a solid colour background.

. In this example it will be harder to cut him out from the background but that is the rst thing that needs to be done.

Stage 2 isolating the subject Here we are going to take the model out from the background. Sometimes, but not in this case, you may need to rotate the canvas.You do this by: Image/Image Rotation/90 Other tools that will help you are the Magnier Glass. To zoom in just keep clicking, to zoom out click but press the ALT key.

To isolate use the magic wand tool or the other tools listed below

TP - Magic wand tolerance (higher=more selected) TP- Magnetic Lasso tool TP- Cutting out with the rectangle

Use the Select/Grow or Similar to help cut out chunks

Stage 3 adding a background Create a new document, File/New. Call the le magazine front cover. Make sure you have the document info as below, you may need to change US Paper to International Paper size in order to get to A4

On photo document, select the magic wand and click on white background. Then select/similar/inverse.You can now use the move tool to drag the image of the model from the photo document TP - New layer TP - Layer order

There are two ways to add a background, you will either use the Gradient Tool or the Paint Bucket Tool.

Choose the layer you want to add colour to and the appropriate tool. To select colour use the colour picker at the bottom of the tools pallette. The left hand colour is the foreground and the right hand is the background. If you choose a Gradient ll it will be a mix of the two colours. TP - To resize image click on correct layer, Image/Free Transform (hold shift key to keep proportions

Stage 4 adding text Layer/New layer Click on the T tool on the left

Changing size/style/colour Menu appears on the top to change these settings NB, to change text, click on the appropriate layer, click T and slide cursor over the text until the rectangle box disappears Layer style on the right is visual icons for various layer styles which can be further manipulated on the drop down menu to the right of layer styles. Remove layer style Layer/Layer style/Clear Layer style Moving text click on correct layer, then move tool Picking colour with eye dropper select correct layer, choose eye dropper

Stage 5 adding a new image Create a new layer Create circle shape go to the rectangle and hold for elliptical marquee

Fill the shape (Edit/Fill) and add layer style as appropriate. Use text tool and add layer style Merging layers make sure the two layers are one top of one another. Layer/ merge up/down Adding image Resizing

Transforming scale etc

Stage 6 adding an image from the net Open internet explorer Go to www.picsearch.com When image is found, put cursor over image, ctrl and click/save image to desktop Close internet explorer Open image in Photoshop Select image possibly using the rectangle. Resize as appropriate. Surng the web an image Saving it to desktop Opening it in Photoshop Cutting out white background Copying to the document

Stage 7 lters Select correct layer, Filter/choose from the range
