BSEd – Science 3A
Learning Competency: determine the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons in a particular
atom
Code: S8MT-IIIe-f-10
I. OBJECTIVES
After the activity and discussion, the learners are expected to accomplish the following
tasks with 80% proficiency.
A. Content Standards
• The learners must be able to identify the element an atom is based on its atomic structure;
B. Performance Standards
The learner should discuss the relationships between the proton, the neutron, and
the electron.
C. Learning Competencies / Objectives
• Organize the protons, neutrons, and electrons into an atomic structure using a computer
simulation;
.
D. Engage
• The learners will have more interactive learning through simulation.
E. Explore
•The learners will perform these given individual activities to discuss new
concepts and practice new skills.
II. CONTENT
A. Topic: Atomic Structure
B. Learning Resources:
BOOKS:
Campo, Pia C., et al. (2013). Science 8 Learner’s Module. 203-205

C Materials: LCD Projector, 1 Laptop per group, 2 whiteboard markers, 1 Periodic table of
Elements per group.
D. Value Integration: Learners will be able to appreciate the beauty of Science
B.2 Drill
•The learners will be asked if what’s there idea about the topic
C. Elicit
(Computer Simulation)
The students will work on a computer simulation and listen to the teacher
attentively while he discusses what is shown inside the simulation.
D. Engage
• The learners will have to answer the simulation and have an interactive
learnings
E. Explore
• The learners will perform these given individual activities to discuss new
concepts and practice new skills.
F. Explain
•The teacher will discuss all the concepts learned by the students during the
activities.
IV. EVALUATION
Part I. Identification
Direction: Choose the letter of the BEST answer.
1. What is the smallest particle into which an element can be divided and still be the
same substance?
A. Neutron
B. Electron
C. Atom
D. Nucleus
4. If a neutral atom has 12 protons, and an atomic mass of 24.31. How many neutrons
does the atom have?
A. 10 C. 31
B. 24 D. 12
Part II. (Fill in the Table) 2 points each, +1 if you get a perfect score.
Isotop Element Name # of Protons # of Electrons # of Charge
e Neutrons
B-6 5 1 0
N-14 Nitrogen 7 0
Fluorine 9 10 -1
Neon 10 10
Mg-24 12 10
V. ASSIGNMENT
Tomorrow, Everyone should bring their Periodic Table of Elements because it will be the
focus of our discussion next meeting.
In your notebooks write the meaning of the following words:
1. Noble Gases
2. Halogens
3. Alkaline Earth Metals
4. Alkali Metals
5. Transition Elements.
