METROPOLITAN CULTURAL REPRESENTATION CENTRE

Cultural centers are becoming more popular around the world, as technology like the
internet makes the world feel more connected. More and more people are becoming
interested in other cultures. Cultural centers are a prime way to bring communities
together in their learning, which makes it more enjoyable and often times, even more
helpful. Cultural centers often hold classes and cultural events, which bring numerous
volunteer opportunities. Volunteering opportunities can bring people closer, make them
feel good. The built environment for the proposed center should be contextual, inspiring
and self-demonstrative to its users.

THE SITE
The figure below shows the details of the site. The site can be chosen from the following
metropolitan cities: New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai,
Thiruvananthapuram, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, New York, Rome, Paris, London,
Frankfurt, Tokyo, Sydney, Los Angeles, and Toronto. The site should be located in the
central area of the city. The main approach is from a vehicular road which is adjacent to
the south-side of the site. The gradually sloped (towards Southside) site is enriched with
some evergreen and casuarinas plantation. The prime activities in the surrounding are
commercial and institutional activities.
THE DESIGN INPUT

1. The Centre will contain the following spaces :

a. Audio-Visual Interaction Centre – Galleries, etc.


b. Entrance Lobby
c. Food Court – Local Cuisine
d. Open Air Theatre (OAT)
e. Administrative enclosure (5 persons)
f. Centre Director’s chamber with attached toilet
g. Electronic library for City’s Archives with video consoles, internet work stations
(capacity 50 persons)
h. Seminar Halls (capacity 200 persons) 2 nos.
i. Souvenir Shops
j. Cafeteria (60 persons) and drinking water fountain
k. Toilet (for both male and female)
l. Parking for cars (50 nos.), two wheelers (35 nos.) and Buses ( 2 nos.)

2. City’s Art and Cultural Heritage must be reflected into overall architectural design.
3. Climatic Design Considerations for the chosen city should be taken into account.
4. Fire Safety provisions should be carefully derived.
5. Users’ Behavioral Preferences must be taken into account
6. Time of operation from morning 10 am to evening 8 pm. excluding Sundays.
7. Structure and Building Services should be planned with prime design objectives..
8. Landscape Design should be well integrated with the main structure.
9. Energy Conscious Design Approach and easy maintenance should be followed in
the design concept.
10. Ground Coverage of Buildings will be maximum 35% and permissible FAR 2.25.
11. ICT, VR, IOT etc. should be considered for Futuristic Design.

DELIVERABLES

A. Site plan showing the location of the building, parking, driveway and other
landscaped features of the site.
B. Detail plan (s) showing space layouts and interrelationship among various indoor/
outdoor spaces.
C. Elevations for all sides with openings and other vertical features
D. Sections --- Longitudinal and Transverse showing the construction features and
staircase
E. Final 3D Model, bird's-eye view for the total site, interior views, view from the site
entry, and night view.
F. A brief concept write-up

The innovative but practical thoughts, correct technical drawings and well-rendered
presentation will be specially appreciated.
