Maintenance Manual, Sa S92A-Amm-000

This chapter discusses leveling and weighing procedures for helicopters. It provides instructions for leveling a helicopter using three tripod jacks and a plumb bob to ensure it is level laterally and longitudinally. Weighing procedures instruct to service fluids, drain fuel tanks, and position the helicopter on aircraft weighing scales to determine the total weight and record the reading after subtracting the tare weight.

CAUTION: DO NOT JACK HELICOPTER COMPLETELY OFF THE GROUND WHEN OUT-OF
DOORS OR WHEN NOT PROTECTED FROM THE WIND. A RELATIVELY LIGHT
GUST OF WIND COULD PUSH HELICOPTER OFF THE JACKS.

NOTE: Leveling is done when fuel system calibration or determination of empty weight center of
gravity is required.

(1) Level helicopter using three tripod jacks.

(2) Prepare for Leveling.

(a) Special Tools and Equipment.

1 Tripod hydraulic jacks, 02-0517-0140 or equivalent.

2 Plumb bob

(3) Leveling.
Using three fuselage tripod hydraulic jacks, 02-0517-0140 or equivalent, jack helicopter. (Refer
to 7-10-00-560-001). Suspend plumb bob from leveling slot on upper frame of right passenger
door. Raise or lower hydraulic jacks at main landing gear to line up plumb bob with longitudinal
reference line on leveling plate. When helicopter is leveled laterally, raise or lower nose landing
gear hydraulic jack as necessary to line up the plumb bob with the 9O9 point on leveling plate
located in door jamb.

B. Weighing (Figures 203 and 204):

(1) Preparation for Weighing Helicopter.

Weigh helicopter using weighing scales or an electronic load cell kit.

(2) Equipment for Weighing.

(a) Special Tools and Equipment.

1 Aircraft weighing scales or suitable electronic load cell kit.

2 Tripod hydraulic jacks, 02-0517-0140 or equivalent.

(3) Weighing.
Determine helicopter weight as follows:

NOTE: To prevent inaccurate readings due to air currents, the helicopter should be weighted
only in an enclosed area.

NOTE: Prior to weighing the helicopter, check that the helicopter contains all the equipment
identified in the current approved aircraft equipment list.

NOTE: For Servicing and Draining requirements, refer to CHAPTER 12.

(a) Service hydraulic reservoirs.

(b) Service engine oil reservoirs.

(c) Service windshield washer reservoir.

(d) Service all gear boxes.

(e) Drain fuel tanks.

NOTE: Tare weight includes the weight of all extra items, such as jacks. blocks, and
wheel chocks on the weighing scale platform, except that of the item being
weighed. The weight of these items, when included in the scale reading, is de-
ducted to get the actual weight of the helicopter.

NOTE: Instructions for use of weighing scales are included with scales.

(f) If aircraft weighing scales are to be used, position helicopter on scales. Total the readings
on the scales, subtract tare weight, and record the reading.

MAINTENANCE MANUAL, SA S92A-AMM-000

NOTE: Instructions for use of weighing kit are included in the kit.

(g) Position tripod hydraulic jacks, 02-0517-0140 or equivalent, under fuselage jacking pads

(h) Install jack adapters (supplied with weighing kit) on jacks.

(i) Connect cable from indicator unit to load cells.

(j) Position cells on jack adapters and position adapters (supplied with weighing kit) on top of
cells.

(k) Connect power source to weighing kit. Allow about 20 minutes for kit warm up.

(l) Zero indicator on weighing kit.

(m) Jack the helicopter and check that all wheels are clear of the ground (2 inches minimum
ground clearance). Record readings on indicator for weight on each load cell in aircraft
log book.
