Morality was always defined as the human attempt to define right and wrong or good and
bad. However, it is more complex than that.
Some argues that morality is objective and some stands that it is more on being
subjective. Objective morality is saying that being good or doing right is innate to human nature
while subjective morality says otherwise. Objective morality
Morality is what society treats as right and acceptable. They are standards that everyone
agrees to follow so they can all live peacefully. This can be taken as morality is changing. What
seems to be immoral years ago is now normal and moral to everyone. Good examples are the
pre-marital sex, same sex relationships, usage of marijuana and others.
People don’t create their own morals; their morals are conditioned from what
everyone else is doing. They think that they are entitled to say what is moral and immoral. This
is with the help of the powerful social media. They will say what they wanted to say which is
moral. The younger ones or the social media users will think that he/ she is right.
Pleasure
Pleasure is an overall satisfaction while fulfilling desires. Suffering is bad and pleasure is good.
Logically, it is moral when you cause no suffering to others. Moral development starts when we
can control our body and mind. If we do pleasurable things without causing any harm, then we
can consider it as good. However, morality still depends on who you ask. One example of this is
eating meat. For some humans to live they must eat meat. However, other living organisms
should die. Was this a moral thing to do? It still depends on the situation we are facing.
Happiness
Happiness can also be considered as pleasure. Sense of happiness is felt when we do good things
or even things that we think is good. Immoral people fail to find happiness because they have
conscience of what might happen to them or their families. Some may hide the guilt feeling but
we can never deceive our mind. This happiness also talks about long term happiness for a person.
Everyone has a dream to achieve and accomplish. When one finds himself that he is on the right
track, he feels contented and happy. The ultimate objective one may possibly strive for is
happiness.
Excellence
Aside from intellectual excellence, we have the moral excellence where those repeated good
practices form us as good person. Also. this can be a higher form of pleasure where we can
define as perfect or excellent. In our life, other people see our lives as perfect. That is when they
become an inspiration or standard of being excellent. However, these excellent people’s
perspective is different. For them, their life is a misery where they want to build a new life.
Creativity
Creativity is a moral tool of being good. People can share their creativity to do good things.
Morality when applied to creativity is like a solace in an imperfect world that balances
differences. On this part, religion is somewhat no longer sufficient.
