1. Force between two charges placed in air is F. If these charges are kept in
water, how does the force between them change?
2. In a medium the force of attraction between two point charges, distance d
apart is F what distance apart should these be kept apart in the same
medium so that the force becomes (1) F/3 (2) 3F.
3. Draw lines of force to represent a uniform electric field. List the
properties of electric field lines.
4. Two identical metal spheres, carrying unequal positive charges, are
separated by a certain distance. They are brought in contact and again
placed at the same separation. What will happen to their charges and the
force between them?
5. A thin straight infinitely long conductor having a charge density λ is
enclosed by a cylindrical surface of radius r and length l. find the flux
through the cylinder.
6. Plot the graph showing the variation of Coulomb force F verses 1/r2 for
two pair of charges (1μC, 2μC) and (2μC,-3μC).
7. An electric dipole of length 2cm is placed with its axis making an angle
600 to a uniform electric field of 10N/C. If it experiences a torque of 83 N
Calculate magnitude of the charge and potential energy of the dipole.
8. Two point charges +3 x10-19 C and +12x10-19 C are separated at a distance
of 2.5m .Find the point on the line which joining them at which the electric
field intensity is zero?
9. An electrostatic field line is a continuous curve, that is, a field line
cannot have sudden breaks. Why not?
10.S1 and S2 are two hollow concentric sphere enclosing charges Q and 2Q
respectively as shown in figure:(i)What is the ratio of the electric flux
through S1 and S2 ?(ii)How will the electric flux through the sphere S1
change, if a medium of dielectric constant 5 is introduced in the space inside
S1 in place of air ?

removed from both. What is the new force of repulsion between A and B?

oil is 1.26gcm-3 .Estimate the radius of the drop.
21.Two charges (+Q & -Q) and kept at (-x2,0) and (x2,0) respectively in the
xy –plane . Find the magnitude & direction of the net electric field at the
origin (0, 0).
22.A particle of mass 2×10-3 kg and charge 2µC enters into a uniform electric
field of 5×105 N/C , moving with a velocity of 10 m/s in a direction opposite
to that of the field. Calculate the distance it would travel before coming to
rest.
23.Two charges of +25×10-9C and -25×10-9C are placed 6m apart, find the
electric field at a point 4m. from the center of the electric dipole
(a) on axial line,
(b) On equatorial line.
24.The electric field at a point on the equatorial line of a small electric dipole
is 10N/C. What will be the electric field at a point situated at the same
distance on the axis of the dipole?
25.Two point charges +4μC and -2 μC are separated by a distance of 1m in

intensity, E. Write the expression for the torque τ experienced by the

(a) What is the flux of this field through square of 10cm. on a side whose
plane is parallel to the yz-plane?
(b) What is the flux through the same square if the normal to its plane
makes a 60o angle with the x- axis?
28.An infinite line charge produces a field of 9×104N/C at a distance of 2cm.
Calculate the linear charge density.
