Assignment 2 Chbyshev Filter (21-MS-TE-05)

The document discusses the design and simulation of a Chebyshev bandpass filter using ADS software. [1] It provides background on Chebyshev filters and their uses. [2] The schematic of the designed Chebyshev bandpass filter with center frequency of 6 GHz is shown. [3] Simulation results are presented in S-parameters, Smith chart, and lists, showing the filter's insertion loss, return loss, and frequencies.

QUESTION #01

DESIGN CHEBYSHEV BAND PASS FILTER USING ADS SOFTWARE

1. Schematic design of chebyshev band pass filter

2. Simulation result graphs in S parameter chebyshev band pass filter
Chebyshev band pass filter

Chebyshev filters are nothing but analog or digital filters. These filters have a steeper roll off &
type-1 filter (more pass band ripple) or type-2 filter (stop band ripple) than Butterworth filters.
The property of this filter is, it reduces the error between the characteristic of the actual and
idealized filter.

What is Chebyshev response?

The Chebyshev response is a mathematical strategy for achieving a faster roll-off by allowing
ripple in the frequency response. Analog and digital filters that use this approach are called
Chebyshev filters.

Where do we use Chebyshev filter?

Chebyshev filter basics

Accordingly is widely used in RF applications where a steep transition between pass-band and
stop-band is required to remove unwanted products such as intermodulation of harmonics.
Ripple: Although the Chebyshev filter provides a steep roll-off, this is at the cost of ripple.

of 2.5GHZ and the central frequency of 6 GHZ with Z0 =50 ohm using lambed elements
Simulation Results

Figure shows the initial simulation result, where as it can be seen the frequency response of the

Insertion and return losses are not acceptable.

ADS can be used to achieve the target values.

This result is in (S(2,1))

We can see the others result of in different s parameter.

It is when we call S11 the return loss that we introduce confusion. Return loss is in dB and is
always positive. S11, in dB, is always negative. While the two terms are related as S11[dB] = -
RL, they are not the same, and their behaviors are opposite. The following result is in s11 and
s21
The insertion loss S (2,1) and return loss S (1,1) that have been obtained for the Chebyshev filter
are
illustrated in the following Fig.
The s parameters result in smith chart

Following results are in the list form; these are defined in s11, s22 and in frequencies
