I. SKILL REVIEW
Now turn to section one. section one, you will hear a man phoning to complain about a flight.
First, you have some time to look at questions one to three.
You will see that there is an example that has been done for you. On this occasion only the
conversation relating to this will be played first.
Hello, you have reached the compliance department. How can I help you?
Yes, hello there. I am phoning to make a complaint regarding a flight that I took with you
recently. Okay.
There are some details I will need to take from you first. And may I have your name please.
JACK Dawson.
That's d AW, s o n.
The name of the man is jack Dawson. So Dawson has been written in the space. Now we shall
begin. You should answer the questions as you listen. Because you will not hear the recording a
second time. Listen carefully and answer questions 123. Hello,
you have reached the compliance department. How can I help you?
Yes. Hello, now I am phoning to make a complaint regarding a flight that I took with you
recently. Okay.
There are some details I will need to take from you first. May I have your name please?
jack Dawson. That's di w ESS
and your address
is 33 Hillcrest road. That's eight H i double l c r e s t 33 Hillcrest road
is that in Exeter?
Yes.
And what is the postcode of the residents?
It's a L 698. GQ.
St. Thank you. Do you have a telephone number?
Yes, the number in my office is 754688.
That's good. And may I just take a home phone number for you in case of emergencies?
No problem. 798662.
Are they both local numbers?
Yes.
Before you hear the rest of the conversation, you have some time to look at questions four to
10. Now listen, and answer questions four to 10.
Okay, great. Thank you for your patience. Now, what is the nature of your complaint?
I'm phoning to complain about a flight I took recently, I always take certain measures to ensure
that I will be comfortable. For example, I always pay the additional cost for extra leg room. And
I always arrive punctually for the flight to make sure that I'm seated beneath an air conditioner.
Page 5
Unfortunately, I was disappointed to find that the air conditioning on the plane was broken. So I
spent the entire flight in discomfort as it was too hot and the air was stuffy.
I see. I do apologize. So this faults with the air conditioning. Now while I have you on the
phone, would you mind answering a short questionnaire regarding your recent flight?
Sure.
Okay, let's get started. What did you think of the food that was served to you during the flight?
I thought that it was inexpensive and quite delicious. However, I was still very hungry
afterwards, as it was a very small portion and more of a snack. Providing a snack for lunch is
not reasonable. Okay.
I have noted that down. What was your opinion of the quality of service that you received from
our staff on board
staff was very helpful. But each time I pressed the button to request service, it took a long time
for a staff member to arrive. And I found this frustrating as there just weren't enough staff on
board the flight to be able to serve all the customers.
Okay, that's great. Thank you very much for answering those questions. Are there any other
parts of your travel experience that you would like to comment on?
Yep. The process of moving through security was very quick, and helped to make my travel
experience stress free. Okay.
Do you have any extra comments on the services you receive during the flight?
Yes, I thought that the seats were very uncomfortable and look very old. And they were also in
need of repair, as the reclined feature on my chair was broken. So I could not go to sleep for
the whole flight. And luckily, the entertainment facilities were very good. So I was able to
distract myself by watching movies. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer all of my
questions. We would like to offer you some gifts as a goodwill gesture with a 20% discount on
the cost of your hotel stay.
We also appreciate that international calls to your home country can be expensive. And we are
sure that you would like to keep your family updated on your travels. So please accept a phone
card, which has a credit of 20 pounds.
Oh, that's really great. Thank you so much for the gift.
No problem. We look forward to having you travel with us again soon. Have a fantastic
vacation.
Thanks. Bye.
That is the end of section one. You now have half a minute to check your answers. Now, turn to
section two.

EXAM PRACTICE
Now turn to section one. section one, you will hear an interviewer asking an interviewee called
Lee to do a questionnaire on residency in the north. First, you have some time to look at
questions one to five.
You will see that there is an example which has been done for you. On this occasion. Only the
conversation relating to this will be played first. Excuse me. Yes. I was wondering if you could
spare a few minutes to do a questionnaire on your residency here in the north. It won't take
long.
No, that's fine. Lovely.
First of all, may I get some information about yourself? Okay, may I know your name and age?
My name's Lee.
And I'm 19 years old now.
Lee says that he is 19 years old now. So 19 has been written in the space. Now we shall begin.
You should answer the questions as you listen. Because you will not hear the recording a
second time. Listen carefully, and answer questions one to five. Excuse me.
Yes.
I was wondering if you could spare a few minutes to do a questionnaire on your residency here
in the north? It won't take long. No, that's fine. Lovely. First of all, may I get some information
about yourself?
Okay,
may I know your name and age?
My name's Lee. And I'm 19 years old now.
Great. And could I ask what your job is? Are you a student?
Actually, I'm going to continue my study in business management next month. But at the
moment, I'm a salesman by profession.
Oh, right. And how long have you been living here in the north?
Well, I have been in this city since I was three years old. But my family and I had lived in the
East for seven years at first. Now I am 19. So I have spent about nine years living here till now.
Great. Which part of the northern area do you live in?
I live in spring park? Have you heard of it?
Yes, of course. So what about your accommodation? Do you live in a house or a flat or
something similar?
I used to live with my family in a big house. And now I'm living in an apartment with two of my
friends. Who are my colleagues as well.
Oh, right. And one more question. What means of transport Will you take when you need to go
somewhere?
Page 7
If it's not too far away, I prefer to go on foot or by bicycle. If there is a long way to go. I take
the train or sometimes a cab. I rarely take buses, because I think the most important things to
keep in mind are time and comfort.
Great. Thanks. Before you hear the rest of the conversation, you have some time to look at
questions six to 10.
Now listen and answer questions six to 10. Now, let's go to the second part of my
questionnaire. I'd like you to tell me, how often do you dine out? Is it once a week or several
times a year?
I'm afraid neither of those options agree with me. I don't often go out for dinner maybe once a
month. Every week just seems too often for me.
Okay, then where do you usually go for recreation?
I often go to places that other people go to. I sometimes go clubbing after work, you know,
there are some fantastic clubs nearby.
And if you do not have to work during the day, when you go for a show or something,
you know, there is the newly built theater that opened last month in spring Park, but I rarely go
there because it's too expensive. I prefer to go to the cinema to see some of the latest movies.
Do you like doing sports? And what is your main form of exercise?
I like swimming, and I go to the gym occasionally. But I spend most of my spare time sailing.
Alright, last question. Have you taken any part time courses?
Yes, because I'm really keen on cartoons. I'm doing a Japanese course during the weekends,
but I'm still a beginner.
Wow, what a special language. Most people I know would like to learn Spanish or Latin. He
must be brilliant. Well, thank you very much for your time. No problem. Bye.
That is the end of section one. You now have half a minute to check your answers. Now turn to
section two.
