CASmm] STEEL RIR GUN SHOT; O OTIVOIaTINGGT Tuva = “I In DISASSEMBLY A, Order of Disassembly Before any work or disassembly is performed on a Daisy lever action, gravity feed model, be sure to inspect the unit and establish if the unit is safe, is loaded or unloaded with BB shot, and whether the unit is cocked or uncocked. Before any evaluation of the performance, the repairman should establish a safe relationship with the gun. After safety inspection, check the performance of the unit to be re~ paired to determine the reasons for repair. This inspection should include actual operation of the unit by installing shot, feeding shot, firing shot, observing trigger pull, accuracy, velocity, and the general condition of the gun. Many of these operations can be per formed by dry firing the unit in a safe direction. Be sure to observe all safety precautions normally encountered with a gun and do not shoot at hard surfaces, as steel shot can ricochet. 1. Remove all BBs, To insure all BBs have been removed from the mechanism, fire the gun in a safe direction several times by cocking and pulling the trigger. Uncock mechanism by firing with trigger in a safe direction. Remove STOCK (S or SM) by unscrewing stock screws (a) and (b). Remove LEVER (981 or 1060L) by unscrewing lever screw (c). Be sure to remove lock nut from screw before removing screw from gun. 4 Remove TRIGGER ASSEMBLY (T or TM) by unscrewing trigger screw (d). NOTE: SAFETY is part of trigger assenbly. If safety is damaged, the entire trigger assembly must be replaced. Il. DISASSEMBLY Ea With muzzle placedon a solid non-marking support, remove the PLUNGER ASSEMBLY (PA) (see illustration #1) by compressing the plunger spring (PS) with the plunger fork and removing the SPRING ANCHOR (45 or 62) by pulling straight up from the mechanism, ILLUSTRATION #1. Plunger Assembly Removal Plunger Fork Plunger Assembly II. DISASSEMBLY With the spring anchor (45 or 62) removed, the plunger assembly (PA) will slide rearward out of the main barrel (MB). Once removed, the plunger assembly (PA) can be further disassembled into SUBASSEMBLIES by compressing the plunger spring (PS) and removing pin (e). ILLUSTRATION #2. The FEED ASSEMBLY may be removed at this time by placing outer barrel on solid surface, insert blunt end of tool against feed assembly, hit tool with mallet until feed assembly slides rearward. See illustration #4. |. This is as far as a repairman should disassemble a lever action, gravity feed gun. Any additional disassembly will be dismantling factory assemblies, which are not readily repairable. ui. ASSEMBLY Drder of Assembly Assembly of the lever action, gravity feed guns are generally the reverse of the Disassembly with the following notations to properly assemble a safe and fully functional mechanism. 1, Fully assemble the PLUNGER SUBASSEMBLY (PA) and lubricate the plunger head (PH) and felt washer with 20-weight motor oil. 2, If the FEED ASSEMBLY (AF) has been removed, assemble a new FEED ASSEMBLY and PLUNGER ASSEMBLY, insert into the gun with a slight twisting motion to overcome the interference of the plunger head Lip with the edge of the pump cylinder. When out of the gun, the plunger head is larger than the plunger cylinder and care must be taken not to damage the compression lips of the plunger head during + assenbly. Compress the PLUNGER SPRING (PS) with a plunger fork and insert the spring anchor (45 or 62) aft of the plunger spring (PS). Be careful not to insert the spring anchor between the spring coils. (See Illustration #l of Disassembly). This may be accomplished by using a blunt center punch. Place center punch in existing punch location shown in Illustration #6 and hit- ting sharply with mallet or hammer in two places. DO NOT BREAK METAL. Insert TRIGGER ASSEMBLY (T or TM) using trigger screw (4) with lock washer under the screw head. Check trigger for freedom of movement. 6. Assemble LEVER using lever screw (c) with the lock washer under the screw head. Tighten screw until lever is snug but not overly tight, then install lock nut. Check lever for freedom of movement. III. ASSEMBLY (continued) 7. Assemble STOCK (S or SM) by using stock screw (b) and the lock nut on the end of the screw. Install screw at the top of the stock, being sure to firmly seat the screw in the stock. Check for freedom of trigger movement. 8. Be sure to UNLOAD and uncock gun before returning to shooter. IV. REPAIR AND ADJUSTME! AL Feed Mechanism Poor or inadequate feeding of BBs, even though directions have been followed by elevating the muzzle prior to sighting and firing, is often caused by misuse of the mechanism by the shooter. To check for this misuse, inspect the following: Dirt in the mechanism Foreign objects or substitutes for BBs Misuse of Feed Assembly (AF) resulting in a bent or deformed barrel, particularly in the feed area Reused shot (shot that has been deformed by firing against a hard object). All of the above can be corrected by installing a new Feed Assembly (AF) and using new, clean Daisy BBs or shot of equal quality. Performance as well as feeding will be affected by bent or mushroomed air tube. To correct, install a new Air Tube (£) with a plunger head assembly (PH). ‘Trigger Release As with all guns, the release of the mechanism by the trigger is a vital and important operation that needs to be closely controlled and in top condition to insure safe operation. If there is any question about the safe operation of the trigger or plunger clip in the unit, or when the following safety standards are not met, the unit should be immediately repaired or destroyed to prevent use by anyone. If the trigger operation is suspected to be incorrect, check immediately for modification to the factory standards. Factory minimum is 3% pounds with used parts. Any trigger pull less than 34 pounds requires replacement of the trigger (TM or 1), plunger casing (P), and trigger spring. If for any reason these minimum standards have been altered by misuse, or shooter modification, return the above standards by installing new trigger (TM or T), new plunger case (P). If the mechanism is below factory standards and has not been modified by the shooter, inspect the sear and pawl surfaces for misuse, rounded corners or lack of lubrication. See Illustration #7. These faults can be corrected by installing new plunger case (P) and new trigger (T or TM). When reassen- bling, be sure to coat the sear and pawl with a good grease or an automotive Molybdenum grease. ce in position to heck fc unded = tes ED) ILLUSTRATION #7 In observing the trigger's performance, make sure the trigger screw (4) is torqued to 4-5 inch pounds maximum, If the trigger screw does not tighten, add a lock nut to the end of the screw to insure firm assembly. Low Velocity, The factory minimum for the Daisy small frame, lever action, gravity feed guns (example Model 105B) is 250 feet per second, or about one-half of the BB diameter into a soft pine board at 15 feet. For large frame, lever action, gravity feed guns (example Model 958), the factory minimum is 275 feet per second or a little over one-half of the BBs diameter into a soft pine board at 15 feet. In test firing, be sure to observe safety rules and wear safety glasses. When the mechanism delivers performance below this standard, check the following areas for possible improvement . Oil the mechanism at the "oil here" hole. After oiling, cock and fire the mechanism several times in a safe direction. During this operation, oil will be shot from the barrel, and one should be careful not to spray clothing or furniture. During lubrication, include the other working parts of the mechanism. Do not use household oils; use a 20-weight motor ofl. Check for loose Feed Assembly (AF). The Feed Assembly should be firmly staked in the barrel assembly and should not move or be pulled back by the cocking mechanism, If this is pulled back and is loosely assembled on the air tube (£) when the plunger assembly is removed from the unit, the feed assembly is loose and needs restaking. 10 Iv. REPATR AND ADJUSTMENT ce D. E Low Velocity (continued) Correct the above mentioned loose feed assembly by seating in place in the barrel assembly (MB), The feed assembly will be held in place by the spring anchor (45 or 62) while it is restaked. A restaking tool is required (see Illustration #6). When reassembling the plunger assembly, be sure to lubricate the plunger head with 20-weight motor oil and install the plunger head with a slight twisting motion to prevent injury of the plunger head sealing lip. (See Illustrations #1 and #6). A bent or mushroomed air tube (£) will destroy performance and velocity. This can be readily repaired by replacing the air tube (£) as supplied in the plunger head (PH). Most commonly the complete assembly is replaced for over-all improvement. ‘The plunger head (PH) will become worn if not properly lubricated or if fired under extremely dirty conditions which will reduce performance and velocity. Correct this by replacing with the plunger head assembly (PH). ‘Through extended use the plunger spring (PS) can become weak or broken. A plunger spring in this condition will reduce velocity; correct by replacing plunger spring (PS). On any of the above repairs requiring disassembly, be sure to lubricate the plunger head (PH) and felt washer with 20-weight motor oil before reassembly. Stock Tightness Make sure the top stock screw (a) is firmly seated in the stock (8). If stripped or cannot be tightened, replace the stock (S). Make sure the side stock screw (b) is tight and that the screw is retained by the lock nut. Safety ‘The safety mechanism on all Daisy gravity feed guns is a FACTORY ASSEMBLY. Should there be a malfunction of the safety or should the safety be removed from the gun, it should be replaced with a new trigger assembly. u
