DEMONSTRATION - Const. of A Helix

1) The document provides the demonstration plan for constructing a helix around a cylinder. 2) The objective is to define a helix and construct a one turn helix for a cylinder with a diameter of 70mm and pitch of 100mm. 3) The steps show how to divide the circle and pitch distance into equal parts, join the division points to the center point, project the points to the base line, and draw horizontal and vertical lines to form the helix shape wrapping around the cylinder.

ROLL NO. : TIME : DATE :

TITLE : CONSTRUCTION OF A HELIX

OBJECTIVE : AT THE END OF THIS DEMONSTRATION STUDENT SHALL BE ABLE TO :

1. To define a helix
2. To construct a helix of cylinder of dia 70mm and pitch 100mm for one turn.
PREPARATION: (tools, equipments and materials) : Drawing paper, Board, Mini drafter, Eraser, Set square,
Pencils, Sand paper pad, Drawing instrument box etc.

PRECAUTIONS
Introduction We have learn about the method of
curves, ellipse , parabola, etc. today
we are going to learn the method of
construction of helix.
Helix is a curve line traced out by a
point moving around the cylinder.

Definition 1. it is a line traced out by a point

moving around the surface of cylinder
in such a way that its axis is uniform.

Construction Problem. – construction a helix for

procedure one turn of dia 70mm & pitch 100mm Divide circle carefully
of cylinder.
1. draw the plan and elevation of
cylinder,
2. divide the pitch distance and circle
into same number of parts say 12 like
1,2,3…….12

S
3. join the division of ‘o’ with its center point ‘o’
4. project there points to base line of elevation
5. Let the point ‘P’ moves upward in the anticlockwise direction. So as
draw right hand helix
6. Draw the helix by drawing horizontal & vertical line in a same lay wall as
for drawing the helix around the cylinder.

Fig.

SUMMARY : we have learned and draw one turn right handed helix of pith is 100mm on right circular cylinder of dia
70mm

ASSIGNMENT : draw the helix of one complete revolution around the cylinder of 70mm dia & pitch 100mm take the
direction of helix clockwise.
