Cor 001 Module #12

The document discusses the four main types of speech delivery: manuscript, memorization, impromptu, and extemporaneous. It defines each type and notes their benefits and drawbacks. The main lesson compares the four types side-by-side in a table that lists their definitions, benefits, and drawbacks. Activities include a KWL chart where students identify what they already know about speech types and add to their knowledge after learning. Comprehension questions ask students to match phrases about advantages and disadvantages to the different speech types.

Tnere are four main types of soeech delivery each having their own benefits and drawbacks.

1\lan ...scnpt
Trie manuscript method of delivering a speech involves writing a manuscript used for reference during the speech
anc fc· official records. Manuscript delivery should avoid reading the manuscript word for word, otherwise the speaker nsks
scunc,1g mechanical. The use of eye contact and facial expressions helps bring personality to this type of speech delivery

Merronzat1on
- ,.,e memorization method involves memorizing a speech word for word. This can run the risk of sounding as
rie : 'ianical as the manuscript method. As in the manuscript method, memorizing key talking points gives the speaker a more
personal aoproach. Add personality with voice inflection, eye contact and facial expressions.

1-rororr.p,L
- ne impromptu method involves speeches with little or no time for preparation and speech writing. In s1tuat1ons like
:n s sceaKers snould do everything in their power to take a few minutes to prepare themselves. Organizing a speech and
ore:;v•ng . down into pans is a quick way to mentally prepare a speech. Preparation should be started at the beginning of an
r:roc~c: :>n, or as soon as a speaker realizes they may be called on to speak. The typical organizational format includes a
ma n oo '1! croof. additional proof 1f possible, and a conclusion.

-re edemporaneous method has more preparation than the impromptu method. It involves writing, rewriting and
ec t ng. n ace ·1or tne delivery 1s practiced, recited, and main points are memorized. Typically, a speaker uses an outline for
W:: Tia r ;io nts and the exact wording 1s not concrete until the delivery 1s given. Audiences typically perceive extemporaneous
speec"es as spon:aneods while the speaker still maintains control of the speaking points
