ARGUS Report

The inspection report summarizes the findings of an inspection of the Flare Scrubber vessel MBF-170. Visual inspection and tests found the exterior of the vessel to be in satisfactory condition, except for some paint damage and corrosion on a pipe nozzle that is recommended for re-painting. Internally, four areas of pitting corrosion on the bottom head were found and measured, with all thicknesses exceeding minimum requirements. Magnetic particle testing found no cracks. The vessel is recommended for fitness for service assessment and continued monitoring of corrosion.

Inspection Report for N1-MBF-170

1. GENERAL INTRODUCTION
Plant / Installation: JVPC, Rang Dong Field, WHP-N1
Equipment name: Flare Scrubber
Equipment no: MBF-170 Serial no.: G-170-05-97-004
Date of inspection: 09th of June, 2021

2. SUMMARY REPORT
The exterior and interior of vessel has been thoroughly visual inspected, Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement
(UTM), Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) were carried out in according to approved procedure for
pressurized vessel.

2.1. External inspection: The vessel is under insulation. The insulation has been visually inspected and
found in satisfactory conditions, no sign of mechanical damage and leaking was observed. Generally, the
conditions of paint coats at locations where were opened for UTM found intact and in satisfactory
conditions, except paint coats damaged and surface corrosion on pipe section of nozzle N5A/B was
observed (see photo report, photo no. 5)
Recommendation: Re-paint corroded area on pipe section of nozzle N5A/B.

2.2. Internal inspection: The interior of vessel has been thoroughly visual inspected after cleaning. Generally,
the interior of vessel fount in satisfactory condition, except 04 paint coats damaged and pitting corroded
areas on bottom head of vessel was observed, detail of defect locations are below:
(1) Corroded Area 1:
- The size of corroded area is 1550mm (length) x 450mm (width), located 250mm from CS#1. The
size of pitting with deepest depth is 20mm (length) x 15mm (width) x 4.0 (depth). (See photo report,
photo no. 14, 15)
- The normal thickness at shell of vessel near the deepest corroded area is 18.5mm.
- The current remaining thickness at deepest corroded area is 14.5mm (=18.5mm – 4.0mm).
- This thickness value is higher than minimum required thickness of head (11.94mm).
(2) Corroded Area 2:
- The size of corroded area is in a circle with 200mm diameter, located 120mm from CS#1. The size
of pitting with deepest depth is 40mm (length) x 35mm (width) x 5.5 (depth). (See photo report,
photo no. 16, 17)
- The normal thickness at head of vessel near the deepest corroded area is 19.2mm.
- The current remaining thickness at deepest corroded area is 13.7mm (=19.2mm – 5.5mm).
- This thickness value is higher than minimum required thickness of head (11.94mm).
(3) Corroded Area 3:
- The size of corroded area is in a circle with 200mm diameter, located 160mm from CS#1. The size
of pitting with deepest depth is 70mm (length) x 60mm (width) x 5.5 (depth). (See photo report,
photo no. 18, 19)
- The normal thickness at head of vessel near the deepest corroded area is 19.2mm.
- The current remaining thickness at deepest corroded area is 13.7mm (=19.2mm – 5.5mm).
- This thickness value is higher than minimum required thickness of head (11.94mm).
(4) Corroded Area 4:
- The size of corroded area is 220mm (length) x 200mm (width), located 400mm from nozzle N5. The
size of pitting with deepest depth is 35mm (length) x 30mm (width) x 4.0 (depth). (See photo report,
photo no. 20, 21)
- The normal thickness at shell of vessel near the deepest corroded area is 18.6mm.

Page 1/12
JAPAN VIETNAM PETROLEUM COMPANY LTD

Inspection Report for N1-MBF-170

- The current remaining thickness at deepest corroded area is 14.6mm (=18.6mm – 4.0mm).
- This thickness value is higher than minimum required thickness of head (11.94mm).
MPI was carried out on surface of corroded areas after blasting, no crack-like indication found (MPI report
no: MT/N1-MBF-170/21-01) (See photo report, photo no. 24, 25).
The corroded areas were blasted and re-coated by Belzona layer before boxing up the vessel (see photo
report, photo no. 26, 27).
Recommendation:
- The vessel must be assessed FITTNESS FOR SERVICE by API Inspector in accordance API 510-
2014 and API 579-2007, Part 6.
- The Conditions of corroded Areas and its remaining thicknesses should be monitored annually.
- Recording the current conditions should crosscheck in next internal inspection campaign.
2.3. UTM inspection:
Ultrasonic thickness measurement (UTM) has been taken using through paint coat UTM technique.
Generally, the thicknesses at previous locations are found in satisfactory conditions, except the thickness
values at 04 above mentioned corroded areas had been evaluated and reported (refer to UTM report no.:
UTM/N1-MBF-170/09).

2.4. Conclusion: The vessel must be assessed FITTNESS FOR SERVICE by API Inspector in accordance
API 510-2014 and API 579-2007, Part 6.

Note: The corroded area was coved by coating material (Belzona).
Comments: FV: The value of wall thickness was measured at first time (12/08)
LT: The value of wall thickness was measured at latest time before this time (06/20)
Dim 1 (Total corrosion / erosion) = FV - new value (06/21)
Dim 2 (Yearly corrosion / erosion rate) = LT - new value (06/21)

Long term remaining life (LT) = (tactual -trequired) / Long term corrosion rate (LT)
Long term corrosion rate (LT) = (tinitial - tactual) / time between tinitial and tactual (years)

Short term remaining life (ST) = (tactual -trequired) / Short term corrosion rate (ST)
Short term corrosion rate (ST) = (tprevious- tactual) / time between tprevious and tactual (years)

Measurement was taken through coating, refer to attached sketch & wall thickness diminution trend below
