1.0 OBJECTIVES
1.1 Able to construct a single phase full wave rectifier circuit using Livewire circuit
simulation.
1.2 Able to identify the principle operation of a single phase full wave rectifier circuit.
1.3 Able to determine the input voltage and output voltage waveform of a single
phase full wave rectifier circuit.
2.0 INTRODUCTION
A full wave rectifier is a type of rectifier that converts both halves of each cycle of an
alternating wave (AC signal) into a pulsating DC signal. Full-wave rectifiers are used to
convert AC voltage to DC voltage, requiring multiple diodes to construct. Full-wave rectifiers
achieve this by using a group of diodes as shown in Figure 1. A diode permits current in one
direction only and blocks the current in the other direction.

1. Explain the principle operation of a full wave rectifier with resistive load circuit.
A full wave rectifier is defined as a type of rectifier that converts both halves of each cycle of an
alternating wave (AC signal) into a pulsating DC signal. Full-wave rectifiers are used to convert AC
voltage to DC voltage, requiring multiple diodes to construct. Full wave rectification is the process of
converting an AC signal to a DC signal.
2. Describe why the load current waveform similar as the load voltage waveform for
Like the half wave circuit, a full wave rectifier circuit produces an output voltage or
current which is purely DC or has some specified DC component. Full wave
rectifiers have some fundamental advantages over their half wave rectifier
counterparts. The average (DC) output voltage is higher than for half wave, the
output of the full wave rectifier has much less ripple than that of the half wave
rectifier producing a smoother output waveform. In a Full Wave Rectifier circuit two
diodes are now used, one for each half of the cycle. A multiple winding transformer
is used whose secondary winding is split equally into two halves with a common
centre tapped connection, (C). This configuration results in each diode conducting
in turn when its anode terminal is positive with respect to the transformer centre
point C producing an output during both half-cycles, twice that for the half wave
rectifier so it is 100% efficient as shown below.
Rectification takes place in both the cycles of the AC input. The efficiency of a full-wave rectifier is
higher than that of a half-wave rectifier. The ripple in a full-wave rectifier is less than that in a half-
wave rectifier.
7.0 DISCUSSIONS :

8.0 CONCLUSIONS :
half wave and full wave rectifier experiment conclusion. A full wave rectifier is a circuit which converts
the entire alternating input voltage into direct voltage. Peak inverse voltage for full wave rectifier is twice
the maximum value of applied input voltage.
