Session-Learning-Episode - Physical Science

This session aims to teach students about work, energy, and calculating the dot product of vectors. It contains activities to calculate dot products in 2 and 3 dimensions, determine if work is done and its direction, and define work as the dot product of force and displacement. Students will apply their understanding of these concepts to analyze examples of positive, negative, and zero work in everyday life and be assessed through an online quiz.

Session Learning Episode (Physics: Work and Enegy)

I. Objective
At the end of the session, the students are expected to:
A. Calculate the dot or the scalar product of vectors
B. Determine the work done by a force acting on the system
C. Define work as a scalar or dot product of force and displacement
D. Determine the relationship between work and energy

II. Content
This aims to enrich student’s knowledge and ability in terms of calculating the dot or
scalar product of vectors to solve for work, determining the work done by the force
acting on a system and understanding the relationship between work and energy.

III. Materials
PC/Laptop with internet connection

IV. Strategies
Activity:
Part 1: Calculating the dot or the scalar product of vectors
1. Define vector
2. Calculating dot product of vector in 2 Dimension using the magnitude of each
vector
3. Calculating dot product of vector in 2 Dimension using the components of each
vector
4. Calculating dot product of vector in 3 Dimension using both the magnitude of
each vector and using the components of each vector
Part II: Work done by a force acting on the system
1. Define work
2. Exercise 1: Determining if work is done
3. Defining work as the dot product of force and displacement
4. Determining whether work done is positive, negative or zero
5. Exercise 2: Determining whether work done is positive, negative or zero
6. Calculating work done by a force acting on the system
Part III: Work- Energy Principle
V. Analysis
Have you experienced doing positive, negative and zero work? What are those?
VI. Abstraction
In your everyday life, what are the activities that you do that can be considered
work as defined by physics?
VII. Assessment
The students will answer 15 questions via Quizziz.com
