Ben was requested by his teacher to draw a rectangle on the board and
lesson
measure the distance around the figure.
Ben found it difficult to measure all the sides of the rectangle. If you were
Ben, what was the easiest way to do the task?
C. Presenting examples/ instances of To find the distance around the figure, we need to find the perimeter of
new lesson the rectangle.

Perimeter is the distance around the polygon.

In a rectangle, two pairs of opposite sides are parallel and congruent.
So, P = length + length + width + width
P = 2 (length) + 2 (width)
P = 2l + 2w

Therefore, Ben should measure only the length and width of the rectangle
multiply each by two and get the sum of the products.

Passi City hosted the 2nd National Invitational Basketball Championship
in the newly renovated Passi City Arena. The basketball court has
standard dimensions of 28 meters long and 15 meters wide. What is its
perimeter?
Answer the following questions:
1. What is asked in the problem?
(Expected answer)
The problem asks for the perimeter of the basketball court.
2. What are the given facts?
(Expected answer)
The basketball court is 28 meters long and 15 meters wide.
3. What is/are the process/es needed?
(Expected answer)
The processes involved are addition and multiplication
4. What is the number sentence?
(Expected answer)
P = (2×28 m) + (2×15 m)
5. What is the answer?
(Expected answer)
P = (2 × 28 m) +(2 × 15 m)
P = 56 m + 30 m
P = 86 m
The perimeter of the basketball court is 86 meters.

The Grade IV pupils in their Mathematics class were assigned to
make a garden made up of different geometrical shapes as part of their
requirements. One of the groups decided to make a triangular garden with
two sides measuring 6 feet and a base of 5 feet. What is the distance
around their triangular garden?

Answer the following questions:

1. What is asked in the problem?
(Expected answer)
The problem asks to find the distance around the triangular garden
2. What are the given facts?
(Expected answer)
Each of the two sides of the triangular garden is 2 feet long and the
base of 5 feet long
3. What is/are the process/es needed?
(Expected answer)
The processes involved are addition and multiplication
4. What is the number sentence?
(Expected answer)
P = 2 ft + 2 ft+ 5 ft)
5. What is the answer?
(Expected answer)
P=a+b+c
P=2+2+5
P = 9 ft.
The distance around the triangular garden is 9 feet.
